Hello, my name is Lila I am excited to have joined the site. I originally joined in 2012 but due to complications didn't get to start my ADN program. I was successfully admitted for fall 2013 and cannot wait to get started. I cannot help but read the threads about how stressful and challenging nursing school is, and I still want to move forward. I am halfway through my dosage calculations textbook, and trying hard to master those skills before classes start as there is a major emphasis on 100% error free calculations. Any advise and encouragement is appreciated and I hope to become familiar with the forums!

Congrats on getting in! Nursing school is hard as all ****. If you have kids it's only more so. I have twin one year old girls and at times I feel like I am one deadline away from really breaking. Don't mean to be a downer, my coping skills are in the toilet. I'm sure you'll do great! Good luck to you!
Thanks :) I have a 20 month old baby girl.. I have help with her ( my mom) and daycare is an option so I can study. I also work weekends as a CNA. I am nervous but excited!
Working will help. I work as an aid too, before nursing school I'd never worked in a health care setting. It helped me with a lot of exposure. Are you doing an ADN or BSN program? Try to find an externship as you get closer to graduation.

I'm a new nursing student as well starting this fall! I agree, some of these posts about how dreadfully hard nursing school is, are quite intimidating! I had a 4.0 GPA throughout my pre-reqs, have two children, and have a husband who is just now leaving the Army. I get extremely nervous after reading these forums at times wondering how in the world I will manage if its as bad as everyone says it is. I am currently a Medical Assistant and have worked prior to starting my nursing journey. I hope that in itself will help me out in the actual program.

It's the end of the semester...we're all very tired and ready to be finished, so while y'all new enthusiasm is sky high...I wouldn't be surprised to find this boards enthusiasm in the toilet lol.
Posted without finishing!
Point being, take it with a grain of salt. Nursing school isn't easy. It's a lot of work. But you'll also find things that come easy, you'll meet great people, and you'll be forever changed. If I never practice as an RN after school, I'll still be so different from who I was just from this experience.
And you'll never be so excited for a GRADUATION in your life
Congrats! Don't stress about the work, because it's coming no matter what and there's nothing you can do about it but take it one day at a time. Until then, enjoy your acceptance!

:ancong!:.......it's the end of the semester for many and they are tired looking forward to the break.....don't forget to check out the Nursing student assistance where we give help with homework! You need to chow what you think first be we are here to help you understand!!!!!!
My first suggestion is to get a good care plan book it will make your life livable!!!!
Again.....:ancong!:
Thanks for all the input everyone. I sure hope my enthusiasm doesn't fade! I am glad I found a support system even if I do break down :)
I have looked at what each class ahead of me was doing and it has scared the ***** out of me. If you're program is like mine they will start you off with relatively small bites though you will be drinking from the firehose. Each semester will build on the last, try not to stress over getting to practice skills, your assessment is your bread and butter!

This :)
Also school is different for everyone. I stumbled around in my ADN program without any commitments, then went on to complete my RN-MSN while gestating and raising two children and got a 3.96. Only you will know your challenges, but as they arise some of us will inevitably be able to relate to them!
Best of luck and give that wee toddler lots of love and hugs. My own daughter is 21 months and number two is set to arrive any day now :)
