I took all the exams before working but then I had a difficult time with the job interview... questions like...Do u have plans of going abroad, do you have a pending application, are you willing to sign the contract of 1-2 yrs. employment? (Sometimes, it just pays to lie.) If they know you have passed the foreign exams, they'll reject your application because they'll just be wasting time, effort, resources to train some1 who will be leaving after a few months anyway. I don't know with you guys but this happened to me.
On the other hand, if you work for a few years before taking the exams, you'll probably be left behind. You'll probably still be in the Phil's >5 years post graduation. Remember, Immigration laws change from time to time...
It's really up to you to assess yourself on what decision is best.

You're probably not talking with the right people. Are those agencies even legit? It's my first time hearing a passer not being able to get a job.

i think it's the hospitals asking those kind of questions
seems like they dont want to employ nurses who are already planning to go abroad
tnx for responding in this thread.. but somebody told me that NCLEX is nothing if you dont have any work experience at all... you'll find yourself working at a nursing home for 2 years??
is this true...
BTW.. plan t o review and work at the same time is that a good idea.. my aunt told me to review at KAPLAN wherein they send u your reviewers online?? true??
plz tell me more about KAPLAN..
TNX AGAIN GOD BLESS..

Was Kaplan Helpful? Marcene
it's not true that nclex is useless unless you have hospital experience
i'ts not true that you'll end up in a nursing home unless you choose to or your agency put you there without you knowing it
it's true that kaplan has an online review, only costs too much
some says it's helpful, but i'm not planning to try it because of the awful price
so do u think working and reviewing at the same time is a good idea?? coz i want to have work experience..

HI!! i just passed the june 06 exams....some said I should take the nclex exams first before getting some experience..never review daw at the same time work kase what we learn from review are totally different from what we usually practice sa hospital...kung baga ideal ones vs.the usual routine dito sa hospital...so kinda mimix up na.
i see ur point felicci.. i guess i really have to decide with which to do.. tnx
i suggest you finish all the exams first before working.. that is what i did..you have all your time to work after the exam.. grab the opportunity.. recent board passers should take the advantage of taking the foreign exams immediately since the informations are still fresh on your minds.. it's your choice if you want to review for the exams and work simultaneously.. (it's so tiring..).. in preparing for the exams, you should be focused on what you are doing..
it's not true that u need 2 yrs of experience in order for you to apply for work in the US.. though there are some agency who requires it.. direct employment is better than going to agencies..
it's true that kaplan is good. i can testify on that..i used kaplan online and i gained so much confidence in preparing for my exam.. contents are excellent.. and the strategies really helped me to pass the exam @ 75 on my first try..
saunders compre book 3rd ed by silvestri is also a good material..and most of my friends used that..
goodluck and congratulations to the recent board passers in the Philippines. may u be a good nurse to your patients and co workers.. god bless..
