New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)

Published

I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)

HAHAHAHAHAAA!!! Frwrd that post was hilarious!!! It's exactly how it was for our orientation! And CONGRATULATION on the scholarship! My eyes got misty for you how awesome is that! One ladies TB test was positive at orientation from the health fair on last Monday.

I'm excited too and I'm also suppose to be reading this FUND of nursing book right now so I won't stay long. But yes they gave us many tips. Like separating the reading out in daily tasks etc. But in class I don't think they will teach you much. They said they want us to learn to male decisions independently so class may be just like orientation for you. She just read and highlighted but it's up to us to really study it. Ok well I'm off to read before I get sleepy. I'm on the iPhone so I'm not gonna spell check sorry folks. Good night!

Thank you BcSkittlez. You are so kind.

How are your classes set up? Are you in one class throughout the day or are you moving from one class to the next throughout the day?

A&P and FUND lasts apx. 3 months.

Then we move to Med/Surg 1,2,3. Then OB, forgot the other two (i'm sleepy from studying), then Nursing Professionalism, then NCLEX PN Review Class.

Lemme know how yours goes..

It's Exciting isn't it? Congradulations!!!

I just started in my LPN program April 3rd! WE have a math and unit test every week! 6 hours of lecture, with a 10 minute break at each hour, and 1 hour lunch. We do a lot of practice on everything we go over so that we will get good grades on the tests. Our teacher gives us math worksheet w/answers on them because she's more concerned about how we worked out the problem. We do powerpoints, poster boards, crosswords every week so that the information gets in our brain more than one time. I have 2 teachers and their motto is " Our job here is to help you to suceed".

But on the first day I was scared to deaath by time I left class, I felt so incompetant, and after all the time on pre-reqs I wanted to quit the program. They said things like for the next year you will have no free time, don't plan a wedding, have a baby or try to clean your house. It's close to the truth, there is so much reading, I have 14 books and we use every one of them! But if you schedule your study time and stick to it you can put some time in for off time and it's not so bad. Because this is something we all really want to do!!!

Only someone who really wants to be a nurse can understand what we are willing to endure to become nurses!:prdnrs:

BcSkittlez: Thank you for sharing your schedule. It sounds like I might need to start planning for quitting my job once clinicals start. I scheduled my studying, classes, and time with my child. However, I totally forgot about clinicals. That's why I love this thread. It points out what I may have overlooked.

I'll be sure to post my first day.

Merrie: Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you found a winning school. Congrats.

Hey all,

Congrats to all that were accepted and anxiously awaiting to start. I got my acceptance letter in the mail this Saturday. I'm so excited and scared. I'm currently 4 months pregnant with baby number two my daughter is 6. I've spoken to my doctor about enducing me one week early to cooincide with my 1 week break we have from school. I'm so nervous about having a new baby and going to school, to top if off I have to drive 1 hour back and forth the school. Please pray for me, this is going to be a doozy.. However I'm not discouraged I'm more determined than ever. I've been done with my RN prereqs for a year and haven't been able to get into a school here in Michigan with a 3.7 gpa so I'm attending PSI in Toledo OH. I start July 6!!!! Good luck to everyone.

Hey everyone!

I'm starting a part time LVN program on July 27th and I am very excited! I wish July was here now. I noticed some of the other posters on here don't like that their scrubs are going to be white... well you are not alone! LOL! I found out from my school that during class, we wear royal blue scrubs and during clinicals we will be wearing white scrubs! I hope the white scrubs are not see through, I would hate that. And everyone is also posting their schedules, so I will post mine too. And mine is not that bad. ;)

Saturdays (clinicals)-6:30am-3:30pm
