I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)
1stLady2: Congrats! You cand do it! *sprinkles Nursing dust*
Well, I passed the entrance exam. Now I am waiting to hear if I'm going to be accepted for the fall semester starting in July. Wish me luck:)
Preemiemama: Congrats on passing the CPAT. I remember feeling crazy when I had to go throught the application process. I officially enrolled and had orientation yesterday and I am still going crazy waiting for the first day to start. I look forward to reading about you and everyone elses success on getting in on this thread. I have not actually heard of anyone interviewing for the LPN program. I personally did not have to interview for mine, but they did have me complete a stress level test and write a few short sentences pertaining to my professional goals.
Hi! I took the cpat April 2nd, and passed:D:D:D! I'm hoping to get into the July day classes as well. I've heard it can take up until a month before the quarter starts before finding anything out. I hope not! :bugeyes:I'm already going crazy:bugeyes:! Nice to see someone on here I might be starting with!! Keep me posted!I will be attending the Louisville Campus. It looks like if I get in, I would be in Group B, since my last name begins with a letter at the end of the alphabet. I'm hope we do find out soon. Why does it take so long?!! Have you heard of anyone having to actually interview? I haven't. Hoping we don't have to interview!
Molly9: Congrats on your start date. I am using my future LPN to allow me to stop working as a CNA and transition into becoming an RN.
Great post! I will start LPN school this fall. Just curious, how many of you are planning on continuing your education to RN/BSN or something else. Are you using the LPN to open doors or does this fulfill your goal? Also, is this a second degree for anyone else who had a degree in something else and now going back for nursing? Good Luck to everyone! keep your mind set on the goal, believe in yourself and you can do it!!!
Kristymarie: CONGRATS! I hope to read your first day story.
I start april 27th!! woohoo i cant wait :) is anyone starting at ho ho kus college in nj?
I have been so stressed, deciding what I should do. I have been working towards becoming a nurse since fall of 2005, I had to begin with basic classes at ccac. I have a 3.2 gpa in all of my sciences, psyc, eng etc. I have earned 56 credits. I decided in spring of 2008 that I wanted to go through a diploma hospital based program, I was excepted into one, began aug 2008, passed fund of nurs with a B, moved on to term 2 adult and geron my first exam did not study and bombed missed almost half of the test, my next exams pulled low b's high c's and come final missed 3 over the amount I could miss and failed theory. I was devastated and the reason for this was that first exam that I put off for fiance graduation week and now look. Now I am debating on choosing and lpn year course 10 mins from home and then doing lpn-rn trans. What should I do that school was to far to begin with and way to accelerated I have 2 children to think about.

I just found out I'm in for the fall. I'm excited but it still feels a bit unreal. I plan to take this one step at a time, but my main reason for wanting to take the LPN route is that I want to do the ISU online LPN to BSN. I found out about ISU in the distance learning board here on all nurses and it sounds just right for me so after the LPN, ISU is is my next goal. I have a liberal arts BA and that was a great experience (but long ago now). I don't recall being quite excited to get in to school before, but I was young and took things for granted back then.
To do list - send in a copy of my BLS cert. and take math for health professionals this summer. Yes this is exciting.
Good luck to everyone!!
OK so last night was the first day for me.................................
Let me just say this.
Prepare... your family.... for.... a change................................
They are not kidding when they say it's alot. This is not a joke.
When they tell you that you are not going to have a life. They are serious. There isn't a way around it. Trust me they packed enough in there to make SURE that you don't lol.
Between reading, learning, practicing, and class. You can forget it bud.
Don't waste your money if you are not fully commited.
We went through 4 chapters of A&P last night.
We are going through 4 chapters of the Fundamentals of Nursing tomorrow and all of the material must be read ahead of class with a 'rest assured' quiz in class to make sure that you read it (and studied it).
TIP: Make sure you have something to snack on to keep your blood sugar level and the headaches down.
And even after all that I'm still enjoying myself. :redbeatheGo Figure heheee!!:redbeathe
Thank you for sharing your first day experience. I appreciate it. I know that there are a lot of study strategies list on this site, but I am curious. As they assigned all of the work, did the teachers give their own hints on how to digest the material?
Thank you.

yesterday, i woke up at 4:30 am and bounced out of bed with tuition check and scrubs in hand. i was so pumped. i still could not believe after 20 years that i am actually going to nursing school. i jumped into the shower with my 80's music blasting followed by some 90's grunge while getting dressed, then had my 90's hard rock just blaring in the car. i had been waiting for this day for over a month since receiving my acceptance letter. unfortunately, i was about a bit over zealous about attending my lpn program and arrived 1 hour and a half early. i was worried about the rule that stipulated that all arriving late to orientation would wash out of the program. consequently, i ended up sitting in the lobby pretending to look busy for about an hour.
it was not long for the lobby to fill up with a bunch of people wearing the deer caught in headlights look . we all suspected what we were there for, but nobody seemed to want to speak. even the few that appeared to be carpooling just exchanged questioning glances periodically. we all appeared to be walking toward the lecture hall with a mixture of excitement and fear. some were in tears as they shared their acceptance letter story. i felt my eyes dampen as i received word that i received a full scholarship from the state of tennessee and the united states fed govt. (i promise to not waste anyone's tax or lottery dollars.)
the situation got funny for many of us when we found out that the mysterious "orientation" fee they charged us was actually a surprise drug test. sadly, one lady did not find it funny. back at the beginning of the application process, the program coordinator stressed that we would not be drug tested until three months from now when we are assigned our clinical sight. the young lady in question took it to heart, and celebrated her acceptance with a drunken weed smoking bash. nope. she did not find it funny at all. personally, i did not find it funny that the line for the bathroom did not move for 20 minutes. i really needed relief after a large morning coffee and a 20 ounce diet pepsi during the lecture.
the orientation itself was unremarkable. my expectations were too high. i entered the room expecting the heavens to part and allow me to receive all the answers to the universe or at least more detailed information regarding the dynamics of the course. for example, class structure, amount of lab time, book information, and etc... although, i was able to glean from them that we will order our uniforms the first two weeks of school. however, the bulk of the orientation consisted of having the student handbook read to us and taking our pictures. i must admit that the paperwork portion of the program was only a fraction of the massive ream of paper i envisioned to have completed. (...talk about being grateful)
all in all, the staff seemed good natured and supportive. i am so happy to be an lpn student.
Preemiemama: I called today and the July acceptance letters will be mailed out the first two weeks of May!! So it won't be long now:D I say we are in!!! Good luck!! Fingers crossed:)
That's fantastic! :yeah:I'm so glad you called them today! I say we're in too! Too bad we probably won't be in the same group though. Do you know anything about their retention rates? I've heard nothing but good things about Galen, so I'm not too concerned, but I am curious!
No, I don't know about their retention rates. But, it's ok if we're not in the same group, we are still going to the same school, at the same time, so we can do it together:) I've only heard good things about them as well. I wish some of the ones who have started would post. Maybe the few on here starting the April class will let us know what's going on:)
