Possible impairment is exactly what the employer is looking for. They do not care if you have a prescription. You could be impaired from a PRN benzo at anytime.

That’s true of meds for many conditions, back pain and migraines for example. How many nurses do you know who have chronic back pain, migraines or anxiety? If they didn’t hire us for treating our illnesses they’d have very few people to hire. They have to be ADA compliant as well.

You do NOT have to reveal that. Against ADA regulations to even ask. You took ONE freaking benzo. Do not admit to the PRN prescription. This employer is looking to narrow down the field and will quickly do so if you admit to anxiety and a benzo prescription.

Also, there is talk here about taking a drug test. Are you aware that you can be REQUIRED, as indicated by your facility P&P, to testing? Some places require RANDOM employee testing when requested. And sometimes also after an employee on-the-job injury, like you slipping/falling on a urine puddle or a needlestick. Even making a serious med error could require a urine test.

The facility's rationale is that you could have been impaired (drug or alcohol) and that contributed to the cause of whatever incident/occurrence. Your failure to cooperate could be grounds for disciplinary action. They're just looking for an easy way to shift blame onto you for any negative occurrences.

Like others have commented, inquiring health questionnaires can be violating ADA or HIPAA (?). You DO have your personal rights, but such insidious practices do occur even in this day & age. But if you don't really know to know ....... Just be super cautious about volunteering personal info. And have your supporting medical documentation readily avail.

No you won't be denied a job. Your condition requires the medication you're taking, according to your provider. Do not let them bully you into thinking you are doing something wrong.

Take your medication as prescribed.

No one is going to bother you.

Stay safe x ❤️

Thank you everyone! I really hope this goes well. I will update this post for anyone going through this in the future.

I don't think it would be a problem if you showed them your prescription. You can just take pics of the bottle on your phone. When they test, they might escalate the testing process to gc/ms which can specify the medication and tell them if you are using it as prescribed and not abusing it. Also, just a bad idea to take it while on the job, obviously.
