Hi all!
I know it may be a bit early but I like to always get the ball rolling. Is there anyone that is looking to apply to the 2019-2020 accelerated nursing cohort at NJCU?? I'm looking to connect so we can keep each other updated throughout the process.
I'm new here so maybe I missed the post. But what other ABSN programs have you guys applied to/is waiting to hear back from?
I'm also waiting to hear back from Caldwell on May 1. My backup program was Chamberlain but I really don't want to go there considering the rep I've heard.
@cinnabonwife I applied to Caldwell as well and haven’t heard anything. I know some people have heard back but from what I’ve been told, it’s been rejections so far. Not sure if I should call and check because it’s by mail...and it was supposed to be by May 1st.
Hey guys! I've been quietly stalking this thread for a while now so I figured I may as well post now that decisions will be coming out shortly. It's kind of refreshing realizing we're all in the same boat! NJCU is my top choice based on reputation, location, and cost.
I've had the chance to meet some current NJCU students during their med-surg clinicals at the hospital I work at and they've all had great things to say about the program. Super knowledgable and well-prepared too ?
GPA is 3.03 with a majority of my prereq classes being B's and a few C's (never actually looked into figuring out my prereq GPA lol). My degree is science/healthcare-related and I graduated in 2017.
HESI score of 87
I have a little more than a year and a half experience working as a tech on a telemetry floor in a large NJ hospital. Hopefully my letters of rec from my manager and director make up for my not so impressive academic history haha
I'm staying realistic knowing how competitive this program is. I plan on retaking some classes if I'm not accepted this time around, but also keeping my options open with other schools. Figured it's worth mentioning that while Chamberlain does kind of have an iffy reputation, their graduates are certainly hireable. We recently hired 3 new grads from Chamberlain and they're doing great as RNs. I'll probably be looking more seriously into their program if this doesn't work out.
I'll try to briefly explain what I've heard, without changing the topic too much on an NJCU forum ?
Chamberlain is actually a traditional 4 year BSN program squeezed into 3 years. It is not an accelerated second-degree program. We would essentially be entering as transfer students.
I've been told Chamberlain is easy to get in, but difficult to stay in. It's expensive, and transferring credits can be difficult (they really want you to spend $$ to retake their classes). I've heard stories about courses not being offered some semesters, and therefore delaying graduation. I've read on here some uh... undesirable stuff... about other people's experiences although the people I've talked to say the school is "fine." And at the end of the day, just fine works for me, as long as it gets me a job! Like anything else, I guess it depends on each person and their circumstances.
