if the new IR laws are passed do you think that we will be able to recrute more ppl into the nursing profession?

Yeah, no. Without penalties it's a lot of hard graft for a less than stunning salary. And I feel comfortable going out on a limb and predicting that we'll lose a whole slew of other conditions, too - like ratios.

John Howard was NEVER the working Australian's friend!
Nurses are working Australian's.
I didn't fight, protest, march, do battle, all through the late 60's, 70's, 80's and into the 90's for what little real progress we made, benefits etc we obtained, to now have it lost ... forever!
We need to do all we possibly can to prevent these proposed new IR laws being implemented.
:uhoh21: Sadly though .... I hold fears it might be unavoidable!

Agreed Grace! I worry because Nursing more that any other profession has fought tooth and nail to better conditions for the patients.

I cannot understand why...when we already have a nursing shortage and recruitment issues......would the government shoot themselves in the foot and make it worse ??
I understand even less why our union did not do a thing about it !
A sad time for nursing.

we have very interesting times ahead. im waiting to see how it will effect me. i more think it will effect the new nurses or those going for new jobs. as for john howard...... i best not say what i think
Received a letter from a friend in Queensland. Her hours have been cut, no more penalty rates, and only TWO weeks paid leave a year!!!!
Yep, the rot has begun!
She's looking to get out of nursing. Another talented, experienced nurse lost to the profession.

What!!! Where has she been working? They can't do that surely?
It would appear so, Gwenith. Sadly. She lives in Gatton. Don't know exactly where she's working, but I'm assuming it's there or nearby.
This is what I feared - that the country people who cannot move are going to be held hostage to the new wage laws. When THIS is the only job available the so called "market forces" that are supposed to stop this happening will instead lead to below poverty line conditions. These laws are NOT supposed to be applicable to those who are already employed. I bet though, she is working for a doctor. So many think that they can get away with whatever they like as far as underpaying staff.

Hah! You're so right about the falling recruitment of nurses. People won't work out of office hours for less money. Watch how the employers try to take away our pay and conditions. I'm getting one step closer to joining the Union again...as we nurses are a mighty workforce when we work together!!! We have the people power over our PM!
The Union should be assisting this nurse to maintain and enhance her working conditions. Doesn't sound right to me...
these new IR laws are direct attack at the people who work in emergency services like nurses, cops, ambosto stop them from striking if they dont like what is going on. they brought in this new law that people who by striking will effect the public in any way is outlawed. i like how people who work 9-5 monday to friday get to tell those that have to work shift work what they'll be paid..... ill just stop there as i know if i say anymore ill get a pm from the mods about my language....
