if the new IR laws are passed do you think that we will be able to recrute more ppl into the nursing profession?

Hi froghair,I and many other colleagues would agree! Can I say, I've been working with an R/N from New Zealand, in emergency on night duty. She has said that their nurses Union fought for pay rises which were slow and protracted. I'm in for a fight, we will let the people of Australia know what this dictatorship is trying to do...And I'm an Ausriginal! Along with the Aboriginal! I'm not going to lose all that our predessors fought for! We nurses are a formidible workforce. Another thought...poor quality nursing will creep in if our wages and conditions are cut!

Ausiriginal!! LOVE IT!!:yelclap::yelclap::yelclap: Can I share that one?:clown:

Tell you what Froghair - when it comes to describing the IR laws I feel tempted to make an exception about the language:angryfire: Words are not enough!!

I think WE, as nurses should put a submission directly to Prof Ian Harper who has been delegated as the head of the new AFPC (Australian Fair Pay Commission) as there are only a few other professions where the welfare of the recipient of that professional service is so tightly tied to the profession's industrial action. In that, I mean we have fought and fought and fought for adequate staffing and conditions not just for us but for our patients. This is what really concerns me - that we will end with impossible workloads as well as poor conditions.

The police are in a similar bind to us.

POLICE have attacked the Howard Government's proposed workplace laws, arguing that individual contracts in policing could foster corruption and result in dangerous performance targets for arrests, fines or searches.

In submissions to the Senate inquiry into the laws, two police unions have sought exemption for police.

The Australian Federal Police Association, representing AFP officers and support staff, said the laws could erode integrity.

"An individual who inclines to exercise his or her discretion in a way consistent with their supervisor's inappropriate prejudices may be very ably rewarded on a high dollar secret deal (at taxpayer expense) that is subject to no independent scrutiny," it argued.

A spokesman for Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews rejected the fears, saying state police would remain in the state systems.

AFP staff would be subject to the new federal laws, but would continue to be governed by their certified agreement.

I'm seriously considering coming out of retirement and taking up the baton, once again! Done it in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's. Be buggared if I'll sit back and watch all we fought for be lost for the next generation!!!!! NO WAY!!

Better still, I'll stay retired, but do it all voluntarily. They can't sack me that way!!!!

Or, maybe I'll just join the Australian Wheat Board!!! :rotfl:

Memo to horrible, er sorry, honourable ?, government:.......

Don't give kickbacks to foreign governments!

Give equality and fairness to own people!!!

In fact, the person Howard chose to head up the Fair Pay Commision has NO ) nada experience in wage negotiation or industrial relations instead he is an academic, a life- long academic. This is from his public CV

As you can see he has spent virtually his entire life at University. His only job outside of University was at the reserve bank and yet THIS is the person Howard has appointed to oversee the wages and conditions the poor people working at Mickey D's are going to get.

This is the other half of why I am concerned

The head of the proposed new Fair Pay Commission, Ian Harper, revealed yesterday that he wants to use the post to do "God's will" and will rely on his faith and values to make fair and balanced decisions for low-paid workers.

In a speech to the Australian Christian Lobby conference in Canberra, the respected economist also admitted he did not know many low-paid people and would ask his "church connections" to arrange for him to meet the people whose wages he will decide.
