Hi,
I am a 38 yr old black male who is contemplating a new career in nursing. I presently work for the State Office in personnel and it is boring and soooo unfullfilling. I have never done anything like this and sometimes question my ability to be able to do it and remember all those terms.
My mate has told me I would be very good at it b/c of my attitude. I just want to have a profession of meaning and fullfillment. Am I too late and dreaming or will I get what I am looking for?

never too late, if you have the desire.
it's generally gonna be hard to match the benefits from state employment as a nurse, unless you get a job with the state as a nurse.

It's never too late so long as you are determined, capable, and hard working!
However, I'll correct you. You will be a nurse, not a guy nurse. We all get the same license :)
Work hard and there is no limit.
Yes let me correct that. A New Nurse - contemplating??? That is what I mean concerning benefits and things.
Many people would kill to have the job I have. Dont mistake me, I am grateful to be working.
Many feel if you are working for the State you have it made, you sit, you do nothing...ect. I understand all that. I just want to be a contributor in life not a taker.

I also work for the state that I live in. In my state we can leave for up to three years and come back and not skip a beat. I am in nursing school, a non - triditional student. I can more easily transfer with in the state than optain a new position with the state. Does that make sense to you? The prison systems, juvie, military (civilian job) ect. You should do what makes you happy in your heart. You only live once. The benefits and everything else will fall into place.
Good luck

Go for it. I personally would like to see more guys in nursing roles. The "murses" at my job are some of my favorite co-workers - no drama, no gossip, just get the work done kind of nurses.

I'm a guy who started down this path at the age of 42... graduated at 45.
Your age is only an issue if you choose to have it be so.
From what I've experienced and heard, guys are very welcome in the profession.

Do it... I worked in the art gallery and framing business for over 16 years pay was always decent and benefits were good but overall the job had become monotonous and drab. Why work and not enjoy, do something that makes you happy
I start school on Monday:yeah:
Good luck to ya
