I live an hour south of Chicago, and this year is not going to be good for new grads. So far there are more new grads than open positions. This economy is going to be tough for a few years.

There are only 13 out of 54 students in my graduating class with job lined up. It's not a good time

Hey how did things turn out for you? Did you relocate to the chicago area? I am in the same position as you were and I am wondering who you had luck with or if you had any good luck finding a job? Any advice you could offer would be appreciated, thanks.

Not too good. Half my class do not have jobs and hospitals are not hiring.

The market is indeed tight but not impossible.
Of our school's current graduating class all but about 2-3 in 35 have jobs - not their 1st or even 2nd pick but they will be working. Where you went to school, how well you did (GPA, recs) and the degree is paramount in this economy. There seems to be more success with the MSN grads given most of us are just pleased to have a job. I know of two large research hosps that aren't even accepting applications from ADN grads.
Good luck to all!

i am graduating in july down here in miami, but i used to live in madison. when i started school, i was guaranteed a job where i used to work in madison, and i was positive i could work wherever i wanted to. now, i'm not so sure i could find a job anywhere.....florida, madison, chicago, any of the cities i've looked....
does ANYONE still here new grads?
Did you try the web page aftercollage.com? Last time I was there Florida had a few hospitals with openings for new grads. Um.... another area that seems to be hiring is Texas. I know that it is not a state that you named but it is an option. From what I hear they are in desperate need for nurses in the Brownsville and McAllen area of Texas. I hear that they are border cities and many people have mixed feelings about the area, but they do indeed hire new grads and they offer sign on bounus's as well as covering relocation costs. San Antonio, Tx is not a bad market either right now. Good luck with your job search!
