  1. Hi guys! I am thinking about applying to Torrance Memorial Hospital. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who can tell me how it is to be an employee there. Thanks!! :)
  2. Hi everyone! I'm planning to move to Cali next summer and I wanted to know if people can help me learn a bit more about nursing in California.... I would like to know what the starting pay is like, and if there are jobs available for RNs. I've looked on a few websites for a few hospitals, but a lot of the positions I have come across are mainly management related. I also wanted to clarify -I heard rumors that since Cali has a statffing ratio law, there are not very many nursing assistants. Is that true? I am coming from a position where every RN has an assistant assigned- i'm just curious to see what cali is like in that respect. I also heard that there are limited transport personel at hospitals and that RNs have to personally take patients to MRIs, CTs, etc. I hope these are all just rumors from people who don't want me to leave my current position. hehe I hope to be in the LA, redondo beach, hermosa beach, (anywhere close to the beach, basically) area. If anyone knows of good hospitals in those areas, please let me know so I can look into it!! Thanks so much everyone!! Can't wait to hear from people!!
  3. Hey! I work there! What floor will you be working on? :) Maybe you will be on mine.... we were hiring recently! Anyway, you probably will not get a parking pass for the main parking lot since it's primarily for MDs & visitors. You most likely will be assigned to the Ryan West football field parking lot in which hospital shuttles show up every 4 minutes. It's about a 2-3 minute drive from there to hospital. Not too bad- I park there too. Oh yeah! CTA purple line is literally next to the hospital, and the metra is around there too. Hope this helps!!
  4. Hi guys! I may need to move to California sometime next year and I would like to do bedside nursing. I was talking to someone the other day who said aboslutely NOT!! I said one of the main reasons besides Cali having better pay than Illinois was the 4:1 nursing ratio. He then proceeded to tell me that although the ratio is there, there are no CNAs so the RN are resposinble for bathing, feeding, toileting and that there are no transporters for pts (to take them to MRIs, CTs, X-rays, etc.) he said RNs do the transporting. Along with that, he said there are no IV RNs, I'd do them all myself. Is this all true!!!?? I work a a hospital where the ratio is just about 4-5:1, and there is one CNA for every RN. Transporters take pts to all exams needed, and we have an IV therapy team so we never start IVs. I feel so spoiled compared everything that was told to me. I really would like to know if any of this is true at all. I came back from Cali (actually, yesterday) and I absolutely loved it. Hope you guys can help. Thanks so much!!!

  8. Hello everyone, I recently started an NP program and I am taking a class this summer that requires us to buddy up with an RN from a different country. I live in the U.S., and the purpose of this project is to get to know an RN and talk about how different/similar nursing is in both areas. Also included in this project are a set of questions that I will be emailing. It's really a project to get to know the person as well as their profession. Questions would be things like: what family life in that country is like, details of educational background, future plans, how nurses are treated, major nursing issues in that country, etc. I think this project is very cool, and I think it will be very interesting to see the information I get back. The only catch is, my email buddy must have either a lot of experience or should have a master's degree or higher. I am really hoping that someone out there can help me out. I am very excited to meet an RN from another country! (even if just through E-mail) I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from YOU!! Thanks a million everyone, and have a happy day!
