Published

Hello, i am a new graduate RN i graduated December 2011 and i still dnt have a job ive been geeting rejection letters one after another i dnt no what i am doing wrong i am getting really frustrated on top of that i cant find any more hospitals that hire new grads im feeling very helpless and hopeless any advise would help. thanks!

WOW that was weird for me to read your post as God has spoken to me many times that I am to work as a nurse in remote places, to use my nursing skills to care for and educate in His name. Right now I'm swirling in confusion trying to figure out how He wants me to proceed. Reading your post brought me back into focus on His plan for me as opposed to my plan for me. Thanks.

I know what you mean... pretty tough here in Calif too. Surely things will improve in a bit..

The job market is very tough for nurses right now. As an LPN for 8 years, I went to RN schoole becuase I wanted to work in a hospital. Luckily I had a job as an LPN in LTC and kept that same job as an RN. However, after a year and 74 apps at one hospital alone and many more at others and a year after become licensed as an RN, I got 2 interviews on 2 different units and was finally offered a position after the 2nd interview. I had to become persistent to finally land the job. Do not give up! It takes patience and persistance and it will pay off in the end.

My nursing manager hires older new grads first before considering the newer bunch. My unit just hired two new grads with May 2011 graduations and their first jobs.

Kind of fair to do it that way, hopefully most hospitals will do this so you are not competing with the May 2012 new graduates.

Sadly, all the hospitals I apply at do not do this. They seem to want the freshest youngest grads they can get.

Any Luck when you applied for positions in other states? and also wondering how did you go about getting license in the states you were offered RN position? how did you go about applying for these jobs? did you wait till you were offered a position in other states before applying for licensure in that sate?

I've been applying to different states as well because job market in Chicagoland area sucks! but is clueless on how I should go about doing this correctly. HELP! would be appreciated. Thanks!

I first obtained my license to a different state before applying, just so they know you're serious. Pick a state or two or get the compact one and apply to those. :) which state were you planning to apply to?

Specializes in PACU, pre/postoperative, ortho.

Try downstate. Most people I've known are having no trouble getting jobs within a few months of graduating, many sooner than that.

well I'm so glad I found this thread.. I'm in the same boat. passed my boards months ago and nada over here in CT. I feel like people think I'm being lazy or picky but it's been the opposite. I've applied to places an hour away from me. I've gotten my NY license too. FT, PT, PD, hospitals, assisted living, you name it.. nothing. I drove to a career fair about an hour and 45 minutes away to be told that they aren't allowing new grads. this is awful, I'm afraid of this going on for a year and then people looking at me like I'm not worth interviewing b/c so much time passed. I debated becoming an EMT just to volunteer and get some hands on experience with patients.. but that feels counter productive and pretty frustrating. I hope we all find something and soon. I can't understand needing experience to gain experience. they all started somewhere just like us.. :banghead:

Have you tried nursing homes in your area? I know it's not the most feasible place to start but it's RN experience and it's paid :) (this is what I tell myself lololol)

I also felt the same way-- people thinking I was lazy or picky but it's the total opposite. Now that I'm working.. I miss being funemployed! Hahahahha!

There are opportunities in Alaska & Hawaii, if you're willing to go this far!

I have tried nursing homes too, same deal.. Hawaii doesn't sound bad :smokin: Alaska..eh..If I wanted 6 months of total darkness and depression I'd go back into another RN program :scrying:

Where did you end up finding a job? How did you get it?
