  1. I was the director of nursing at a SNF and recently got a position in the hospital. It took about three weeks for the hospital to complete my background check. The difference: A SNF will let you work while your background check is pending and will receive the results in 30 days then will let you go if something comes back. In a hospital, they complete the entire background check before they even offer you a position. Hope that helps!
  2. The job market is very tough for nurses right now. As an LPN for 8 years, I went to RN schoole becuase I wanted to work in a hospital. Luckily I had a job as an LPN in LTC and kept that same job as an RN. However, after a year and 74 apps at one hospital alone and many more at others and a year after become licensed as an RN, I got 2 interviews on 2 different units and was finally offered a position after the 2nd interview. I had to become persistent to finally land the job. Do not give up! It takes patience and persistance and it will pay off in the end.
  3. I completed the LPN to RN transition program at Clark State June 2011. When I started, in September 2010, that was the first year they kicked off the Medic to RN program. I heard it was a great success as our instructors were the same ones doing that program too. I also was in hopes of completing a majority of the nursing classes online, but soon found out they carried online classes only based on interest on surveys mailed to students. After those surveys were returned, suprisingly interest was low so they held no online nursing classes. Therefore, I did the traditional classroom/clinicals. I enjoyed it though and thought they had a great program! Let me know if you would like any more information!
