Hello all! I have always wanted to live in Australia and I have heard they are in need of nurses right now. I will graduate in July from a program in the United States and hope to move down there but I am in search of New Grad programs. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated
I can give you some general interview advice:
- look at the organisation's website, paying attention to what they think is important: their priorities, mission statement and the image they project;
- if it's a phone interview, jot down a couple of things you want to get across during the interview: a learning story, a special interest, a career timeline;
- keep calm and remember to breathe;
- think about what you want to say before you start talking;
- pay attention to the question they're asking, and think about what they want to know: are they assessing your knowledge, how well you recognise your strengths and weaknesses, how well you communicate, what kind of team member you are...;
- think about your answers to typical questions ahead of time: what are your biggest flaws, where do you see yourself in 5 years;
- refrain from answering these with things like "I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist": not only has every other candidate said the same, after working with a couple of perfectionists I'd rather hire someone who focuses on doing the job well enough that everything important gets done, even if their beds don't have hospital corners;
- contact the interviewers later that day, thanking them for their time and asking to let you know if there were ways your could have improved your performance.
Good luck :)
Pay and other conditions vary by state. In Victoria graduate nurses currently earn $907/week base rate (with an additional 3% from October 1st), with penalty rates for PM ($22.70) and nights ($52.80), and time and a half for weekends.
Other things to take into account are salary packaging, ADOs, and nurse/patient ratios.

Dear SC-RN: I am still in Adelide and you're gight you can find a lot of supportive people in hospitals. it will be nice for you to get back to here. My two big boys are still demanding my time and maybe a year after I'll enroll in a postgraduate course. I am scared now due to the GNP interviews in Melbourne. I did not have any interview in Adelaide for the GNP. If you could give any advise to be prepared for the interviews would be really appreciated
Thank you and good luck with your studies
