  1. Congratulationa
  2. Hi there I know how you feel, my mind is always changing too! But thats what I love about nursing. I am about to graduate and have a few offers 1.being in Paeds 2. being in renal after a med/surg rotation it is so hard to decide as i have had a clinical in renal which i LOVED and while I love kids and imagine i will enjoy working with them I havent actually experienced it yet..... makes the decision hard loving the options really. I think both they choose you and you choose them, I know my enthusiasm came out for both those areas during study, clinical and in interviews.
  3. baahahaha well my advice is to get a good sleep , relax and dont let your nerves totally ruin the interview as I did yesterday( yep it really was that bad , I've had feedback already). KNow you competancies(ANMC) , rules regarding meds ect , think about basic simple answers but DO USE nurse words....... they were really looking for those catch words. Simple clear concise answers , that indicate you will be safe nurse. Refresh your basic med surg knowledge. Good luck. dont crack funnies .... I KNOW I know but i was just so tense:clown:
  4. There are some hospitals that have july intakes particularly in QLD & NT. I'm so excited cos I just posted off my application to the NT Fingers crossed. I cant beleive it's finally time to apply:nurse:
  5. Hi I am almost finished study by correspondance at Charles Darwin. But I started my degree as an internal student. I found study externally was by far the easier to fit everything in. Yes you do have to be motavated but at CDU you have assessments due every couple of weeks so I actually found it alot easier to keep up with everything. Good luck
  6. oh no i am 3 units from graduating from my bach of nursing and because of a complete balls up over the posting of a letter.... i now have a criminal record !:crying2: I lost 13 pionts in 3 yrs - i beleived i was on a three month good behavior bond however hubby forgot to post letter..... so it turned out i was actually disquialified from driving for 3months, any one I was pulled over for a random breathe test and license test and .....the rest is history. Now I am freaking out ..... I have just sent the new info to uni and waiting to see if I will be able to finish????? Does any one out there have any idea if I will be ok? Thankfully it is not for fruad, violence or drugs.....but still .....it is a record. Any way just needed to cry , vent and freak out somewhere.
  7. good luck lex! yes i miss the class contact too. I made some good friends at usq which i still keep in contact with. I also miss the study groups which i found helped with my studies so much.
  8. Thanks for everyones replies. I guess i better study harder so i get one of those precious post grads................but still stressing about what opportunties are their if i dont get one as Talaxandra said not every graduate gets one - and having a hubby with a good career means moving could be limited:cry: and i dont think i'd like to do agency straight out of uni..... or aged care. Fingers crossed then as I think i'd like the mentorship. cheers
  9. hi i meant the post graduate year after uni finishes. cheers
  10. Ok i'm a nursing student and so much presure is put on us to do a post grad......but what if you dont get offered one? Have all of you completed a post grad? Does any one out there who didnt complete a post grad still work in acute? threatre or renal? OK having mini mental moment but i'm just curious.... cheers
  11. wow , my auntie (RN) also said in adelaide you can do a 6 week clinical placement and an exam and whalla your EN. My girlfriend works in NSW as a student nurse at a hospital she is allowed to do all sorts of exciting things as long as she has learnt them at uni and is under the supervision of a rn.....she such a cow I;m so jealous.
  12. lol is this a joke....... mmmm thank god i live qld australia. BUt so true they might not state it but during the interview ...well of course you are judged on presentation as well. Hopefully if i'm ever a patient though my nurse will be kind and knowledable and takes the best care of me regardless of her looks , humor my come in handy though.
  13. wow - personally i have been on 4 clinicals. I choose to country hospitals. Kilcoy which has orthopedic overflow from the larger hospitals and stanthorpe which has A&E and threatre as well. Both were great. Great opportunities for 1st/2nd yr student of course i had the bed bath, showering changing etc but also drug rounds , patient loads , blood transfusions, nasal gastric, catheras, needles , A&E and a day in threatre plus the steralizing. Basically at both i got to try EVERYTHING i was able to do ( did in class). Plus i also got to watch help in other areas palitive care( such caring professional staff to learn from) ECG,s. Both of these were only 2 week placements but i crammed alot in. Compared to other students i had a absolute fantastic experiences ......but i also pushed for that. I'm of to alice spring hospitable next wow cant wait. What was your rachel?
  14. Now if only i could spell:crying2: Sorry guys
  15. Hi CDU stands for charles darwin uni in Darwin. I'm doing it external. Which is great. I actually started at UNiversity southern queensland in Toowomba but changed cos iwent to work at Ayers rock. It was really great studing at a smaller regional uni (usq) very very flexible, you could usually go to any tut / lab on offer if you couldn't make your usual due to small class sizes. They also have a lot of courses on offer over summer which meant you lighten your work load but still finish on time. CDU is ok. They have ecixting subjects on offer, you get to choose 3 electives and do a 4 week clinical placement in 1. It is a bit weird external I miss the class contact.......but hey it fits in well with work/family. They have regular assessments so you cant fall behind cos there is always something to hand in , sit or discuss. What do you think of renal? is it compulsory or an elective? Mine is one of my electives...looks ok it is only my first week ...lol If any one gets the chance to go to a small country clinical take it, i've beeen to 2 stanthorpe and kilcoy and they were so hands on. I got to try so many skills. So much more than my fellow students who stayed in town. Welcome Sammy. Sounds like a great semster for you too!
