Hello Everyone ,
I just wanted to ask all of you fellow nurses out there what I should do about my interview. I had my first new grad phone interview on Thursday afternoon and the head of HR said I did very well. She then gave me a list of floor openings and asked for my top 3 to send my application to for interviews. She said that they have 72 hours to contact me for interviews and then said nothing after that. It has only been one full business day since my phone interview. If I dont hear anything by Tuesday should I call her and ask what the next step in the hiring process is. Please let me know what you would suggest doing. I really need this job and this is my first time interviewing with a hospital. Thank you so much in advance:) :)

If you don't hear back w/in 72, yeah I say call her and ask. Also, don't forget to send some sort of TY via email, if possible.

What worked best for me was the straight forward honest approach, like look I don't know everything but I'm a willing and quick learner

Good luck. They probably won't fail to hire you if you are a little too eager but give them the time they stated. Don't forget to mention that you aren't afraid to ask for help, then actually do ask for help once in a while. A know-it-all who is too egotistical to ask questions can be dangerous and a red flag for a charge nurse.

i agree i think that if ou dn't hear anything back then you should definitely call. perhaps ppl got backed p and didn't have a chance to call ou. don't take it personally. just take these next couple of days to relax and to prepare.
in my opinion, personality matters the most. seriously ho cares if you haven't already mastered the skills like starting an IV or putting in a foley catheter. what matters is how you will get along with your coworkers. take it from me, i am a new grad and never saw how much personality mattered @ the hospitals until now. i see that as nurses you must work together as a team and learn how to work under high-stress environments. so just remember to smile during your interview (cause i know you're going to get an interview) and show your personality!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::nurse::nurse::nurse::nurse:

Don't send a follow-up e-mail if you can avoid it.
It used to be that you'd sit down with a nice note card and a pen, and spend five minutes writing a careful, brief thank-you note. You'd reiterate your interest in and qualifications for the job, thank the interviewer for his or her time, and mail it immediately. These days, a typewritten letter on good quality paper is acceptable. But e-mail is not good form unless you expect to see the interviewer again before a hard copy letter would arrive by mail.
As for the 72-hour limit: If the interviewer doesn't call by then, by all means, call.
Here are some great tips on interview follow-up from Donna Cardillo.
Thank you to everyone for all the support! This is why I love this site and nursing:) So today HR called me and told me that the floor I did my final internship on which was an OB floor the director called and asked for her to send my resume over. She didnt have a position open until august but she wanted my resume and to see what she could do 15 minutes later the director of the OB floor called me to offer me a job! She said she didnt want to interview me that shes seen me work and that means more than asking me a list of questions! I accepted right away and told her I would be honored! I loved doing OB and the floor that I was on but generally new graduates do not get jobs in OB ! I'm so excited! Any advice would be appreciated:)
