Hello, I will be done with nursing school this Saturday after a 3.5 year long journey. Pinning and graduation are both not until June, but I can however take my boards as soon as my school sends my transcripts to the board of nursing, so until then, what am I? Just someone who finished nursing school? Thanks!

Congrats! But until you pass Nclex you can not use title of nurse.

I know that part. So in the meantime, what am I?

Nursing school grad would be accurate

Specializes in PACU.

Or, BSN if you graduated from a bachelors program, ADN if you graduated from an associates program.

Specializes in ICU/ Surgery/ Nursing Education.
Or, BSN if you graduated from a bachelors program, ADN if you graduated from an associates program.

I do not think this is correct. Any reference to being a "nurse" would be representation I believe (BSN, ADN, or otherwise). When I graduated I asked my instructor and she stated that I was a graduate nurse but that would seem to be against this rule as well. Just take the NCLEX, pass, and call yourself a Registered Nurse

Specializes in Tele, Interventional Pain Management, OR.

According to my new place of employment, I am a Graduate Nurse (GN) until I pass NCLEX. I've achieved this designation because I was registered with the BON in my state and they received the affidavit of graduation from my nursing program on 12/10/15.

Then I will be a Registered Nurse (RN). I must take NCLEX within 30 days of the start date at my hospital system--and I will! I can't wait.

You are a GN until you pass boards. You cannot call yourself a RN until then.

Bachelors of Science/Associates of Science in Nursing only implies you've been conferred the degree.

Specializes in ER.

You're a graduate nurse/new grad. I am guessing your school does not offer a winter graduation ceremony? Some schools do not. At mine, they combined summer and winter.

You may even get your degree earlier in the mail. My school for my BSN did not offer a winter walk but they sent my degree in January or February. My transcript reflected in December that I had a BSN.

You're correct. My school only does one walking ceremony in June for the whole schools and all programs. Also they want to only have one pinning (I'm guessing to save money) so even though we finish this Saturday, can't have our pinning until June as well to wait for the class that's behind us who we barely even know. So you can imagine the issues we are going to start having arranging a ceremony originally planned for 23, with 15 extra people. Anyway, I know I can't call myself a nurse (would never do that) but wonder what am I until

I take my NCLEX. Thanks!

May I ask you what state you're in?
