Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hi i think we're on the same boat, I have made a personal query with aphra just the other day regarding taking the ielts or not since i have received my eligibility before the 11th of sept 2011. now am planning to commence my bp but my worried is the application of 457 visa which as far as i know ielts is a basic requirement too., as to nurses of course it would always be 7 in all sub test... I guess we need to contact the DIAC for this.. or maybe our employer will help us regarding this matter. im sorry am not a great help but glad to know i have someone with the same case..so when are u goin to take ur bp? what school? maybe we can go together since iam looking for companion too. :)

hi marklouiemarco. I understand. But according to the man I spoke with, I should come back for the certificate of good standing this July 9 and that I will be the one to mail it to AHPRA not them.
Well don't you want to send it by yourself so that it own't take too long? Besides the rates are almost the same

i remember this. it was when ahpra were accepting statements from overseas secondary schools and universities stating the instruction was in english.this of course gave no indication what standard of english that overseas nurse actually had and when they came to australia it was blatantly obvious they had poor english skills. i asked joiemike did these students still pass the course and was told they were still allowed to pass. hence my trust in the standards of this school who runs the course.hello joiemike,"the 5 were all from india. it's their english competency that was usually lacking." -- wha t do you mean by this? is it related with ielts? or the way how they communicate during the course. were they able to pass the bp in 3 week time?

hello jedfort: When did you received your LOE from ahpra? Did you enroll already in any school?Do you have IELTS? If you were able to get your LOE before september 2011, you are then exempted from taking the IELTS.. What is your contact number? Pm me for that so i can call you ASAP>where are you from?
hello ceridwyn
thanks for the information. I have checked the website and it says that you should need to get a IELTS scores of 5 in all subtest? I am just wondering, 7 is required for nurses FOR AHPRA =. Is it true that for immigration you should get at list 5 in all subtest to get the 457 visa? AHPRA and Immigration have different criteria. Please enlighten us about this

If you get the information booklet from DIAC that explains the requirements for english yes 5 is enough IF you do not belong to a profession that requires higher and that is AHPRA and by the time you are looking at applying for a 457 along with your promising employer, the requirements for your profession are and will be 7 IELTS in all subtests in one sitting AT the time you are applying for the visa from DIAC.
There was a poster here a few pages back in the same predicament. Had just finish 1 year course with flinders and now has AHPRA registration but is not eligible to get a 457 visa (along with other students they mentioned) because they only needed lower IELTS for the couorse and was finding a way to stay in Australia to try and get the IELTS requirements.
""English for registration, licensing or membershipA higher level of English may be required for certain occupations where it is a
requirement for registration, licensing or membership in Australia. You can find out
if your occupation requires a higher level of English by contacting the assessing
authority for your nominated occupation. Contact details for assessing bodies and skills
recognition are available on the department’s website www.immi.gov.au/asri/
If the primary visa applicant is required to hold a licence, registration or membership to
perform in the occupation then they must have English language proficiency of at least
the standard required to be granted that licence, registration or membership.
This can result in the English language requirement being higher than a test score
of 5 in each of the 4 test components, depending on the requirements of the licence,
registration or membership.""

hi guys..wow this thread is so long already...anyway,im a grad nurse 2yrs ago from the philippines and i haven't taken the board exam..right now im going take my nclex the 4th time around and probably this will be my last shot cuz according to our agency right back in our country, each applicant who failed their nclex 4x in one year, you have to RE-APPLY again within a year..so im not going to wait that long because i've been here in California right after I graduated and studying my butt off in almost 2 years..me and my parents both agreed that if i can't pass this last one,i'll be heading to AUSTRALIA to pursue my career in nursing..cuz right now california can't hire even those who passed the nclex and the USA is in retrogression..
I heard and read any article or news that australia will hire an RN or not an RN whether w/ or w/o experience...
my brother's gf have a few friends that graduated (same school as mine) and they are already in australia and they said that they already graduated of some sort of nursing program for 2 yrs and now they are a nurse(similar story of my cousin who is in scotland)...they didn't took the local boards and they didn't have any working experience in any hospital(well except since were in school and assigned us in different hospitals for our duty)..
so here's my questions:
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS
HOW MUCH IT COST(AUD currency)
WHO'S GOING TO ASSIST US IF WE ARE THERE
hopefully you guys can answer my questions and give my advices..i'm 24 y.o already worked here as a live-in caregiver and worked in long term care facility and i don't want to stick this kind of job..as finding an employer to petition me,well it is difficult..THANKS GUYS
