New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Okay, so I was reading the posts from last year in this forum when I came across this post:

6 months after BP, still no work as a Registered Nurse. SIGH.I'm here in Australia (PR). Lucky enough, yes. But, still no luck of being employed as RN. I'm working as a Carer in a far rural place. Receiving enough wage, learning skills, improving my communication.Six months...Most of my Indian classmates went back to their country. Few got lucky to be sponsored but they have already have long years of experience.Truth is...There's already nursing surplus of Australian graduates. There are job postings/listings but prefer HIGHLY experienced nurses and OZresidents.
I was able to keep my cool about this matter cause I really had huge anxiety attacks before. I mean I know that I shouldn't be thinking about this at such an early stage of the application, but we all can't help but .... I don't know.I need to calm down.
Specializes in ER/ Radiology Nurse.

Will your PHILHEALTH insurance pay for your doctors and hospital visits while in Australia? then it is okay, otherwise you must take out health insurance that covers you while in Australia.

Oh I see...I guess I have to get a new personal health insurance. Thanks so much! :)

my cousin who didnt have any hosp experience got hired in a hospital. another cousin of mine who only had 3 mos hosp experience also got hired and the hospital sponsored his working visa. what they always advise me is that i should not be choosy. it is true that there are a lot of nurses in aus but almost 80% i think dont have any experience. hospitals would hire nurses with extensive exp. nursing homes tend to hire nurses with 0 exp and still offer sponsorship.

If you have theatre or ICU experience, you have a good chance of getting full-time work. Nil experience? What does this person have to offer over locals?

I`ve emailed them just early last week. :)

Let's update each other. Hope we can get into their Jan2013 intake. ;)
