New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hello,

I'm a BSN and RN in the Philippines. Guys, please enlighten me. If ever I study BSN in Australia as an International Student, and hypothetically finished my degree there. Which is just about 2 yrs full-time, because of the RPL, my BSN degree was credited a year. Is it true that I still need to have an IELTS of 7 in all areas, for me to register to APHRA? This is because I did not study 5 years full-time in a recognized English country? I am planning to study Nursing in Australia, thinking that after I graduate with a Nursing degree, I will register straight to APHRA without having to take English exams. AM I wrong with this assumption?

Don't you think that you'll be wasting time and money by taking BSN if you can take the BP instead?

Congrats ianjel. that's a good news. i just would like to ask if a case officer was immediately assigned to your application? after how many days upon ahpra's acknowledgement that they received your papers? i also sent mine in ahpra vic. thanks.

hello there!

A lot of nurses applying sent their documents to AHPRA-WA. From what i've read and heard, they did not yet release LOA's since September 2011.. Is it advisable to transfer our application to another state.. Victoria perhaps? I heard it's the fastest these days.. thanks!

I don't know if this will somehow help on choosing what state to submit your application, but I lodged mine at ACT. It took them about 7 months (July/Aug 2011- Feb2012) before they gave me my "In-principle Approval" letter. I went to AHPRA-NSW last June 4 to validate my identity and they told me it might take a week before I can get my registration since they have to send over my documents to AHPRA-ACT. But ACT emailed me within 6 HOURS (same day) and gave me my registration. So ACT maybe be fast these days.

You answered your own question, yes you still need ielts, would it not be more cost efficient to get a private english tutor get ielts and do 8-12 week course for 10,000 to 15,000 than in 2 years and 25,000 thousand later and still pass ielts and still not more likely to find work.Do you have money and time to burn.
