New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

quick question guys, for the ph passport as proof of identity, is this considered a government or private passport? just wanna be sure. and for those who are USRNs, did you request for a verification form from the US board too? thanks!

I included all the states that I am licensed, even the inactive ones. For my BON, I just asked them in writing to verify my license and send it to AHPRA. I did not submit any form.

hi zonrox.....sorry i just opened my account now and i don't even know how to reply to you.... it's jsut now coz im on a 3 day off.... are you still looking for a room in Bendigo?

Hi chabeli! I am for the May intake of La Trobe Bendigo. I was so happy to see your post! Are you also for this intake? I do not have a place to stay yet in the Bendigo area though I reserved a room, just for my arrival on the 24th of May. My friend who's offering me a place lives in Melbourne and its like a 2 hours ride I guess from there. Do you have any suggestions? Hope to hear from you soon!

I'm just thinking at which bridging program is better? I'm looking into either La Trobe @ bendigo or Deakin @ burwood. Any thoughts on this?

Hi there! I just received my Offer Letter for BP @ La Trobe, Bendigo.

May I ask if part time jobs can be feasible by doing the BP at La trobe?

Have you found a job yet?

Are there accommodation choices at Bendigo?

Thanks so much. Cheers.

The question you should ask is how RN oz1 secured his/hers 457 visa. The route he took may not be available to you now. He secured his work visa 2 years ago. The job market was different then.

Hello everyone!

For those who applied for the 456 visa, how long was the process for its approval? I already lodged mine yesterday and I would like to know what is the average time that I have to wait since my bridging course will commence this May 21. I hope I could get the result earlier. Did anyone of you here experience an unsuccessful visa application? I'm a bit anxious about this one. Thank you so much.

Hi cioman94!

I am a registered nurse in the Philippines. I have 2 years of VOLUNTEER WORK in a tertiary hospital. I am planning to go on a bridging program for Australia but I'm having second thoughts because I'm scared that I might not be able to find a job there after I finish the program, thus wasting the money which I don't have the luxury of having more than enough. Can you help me decide or can you offer me advice whether it would be a good investment to go there in a bridging course. I am not really knowledgeable about Australian policies yet. But I was wondering if it would be better to apply for a skilled migrant. Would that be easy?

Hi. Uhmn, I lodge mine March 26.

Got a go signal for medical exam March 28 or 29 (not sure)

Done with Medicals April 4

Posted my results online April 11 (it was delayed due to holyweek)

Emailed embassy re: update on visa April 17

Embassy asking me for IELTS results (because I took another one last March 31) April 18

Replied and plead and beg (hehe) April 19

Got my visa April 23.

So there :) 28 days in total. But I think it would really depend on your case officer. :)

Hi Doydoy,

Nope, I am not for this May intake. I am from IRON batch 1 of La Trobe and is already working here at the Bendigo Base Hospital....pmd u

for what intake are you? not a lot of part time jobs here in Bendigo especially if it's not school break. It's also not feasible coz you will be at the Uni whole day and your placement is shift hours at the aged care or hospital..... most of the jobs here ask you for permanent days where you can work like if you say i can only work MOndays, etc..... you can try to look for weekend jobs but then again most of the Uni students also work weekends....so basically, competing with current students already....

maybe after your course , if you get the ealry exit you can find a job...

for accomodation, i can give some suggestions..just pm me

to be honest, it doesn't matter....hospitals just look at your license not from which school you came from so it's very different from the PHilippines where the school matters....

bendigo is 2 hrs by train away from Melbourne and Deakin is closer to Melbourne.... either of the schools are good coz they follow the same standards required by AHPRA....probably the edge of la Trobe Bendigo is your placement is still within Bendigo while Deakin i heard puts you in different hosptials which could sometimes mean you have to look for accomodation close to that hospital if you do't want to be commuting after your 10pm shift
