New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

has any one of you sent their application to ahpra brisbane, qld and got a response already?

hi zonroxrn . .how long have you been waiting for your application?

More than 6 months. Where did you pass your application?

HI . .I submitted to AHPRA-WA . .I thought you have received your AHPRA eligibility letter as what you have posted in the past. . ?? Your application was originally from NSW then you transferred it to AHPRA-VIC right? . . Then you said you received your LOE after a month . .Is it possible to transfer your application twice? . .I'm just wondering. . TY. .

hi everyone, i am also aspiring to be an aus-rn. last april 19, 2012 i got my eligibility. i applied through ahpra victoria and was amazed at how quick i got email on my eligibility. it came sooner than my expected 4 to 6 months. i got mine after a month and two weeks. i suspect that it varies from one state to the next. maybe it helps that an applicant keeps on emailing and checking up on their progress because it seemed to have worked for me.

i could not read all of the posts here as apparently there are gazillions but one thing i noticed is that little has been mentioned about the interview that the school conducts on the applicants. i just got off from my phone interview from aaon (australian academy of nursing) so i thought maybe i could share my experience with you who may not be aware that there is such a thing.

first off the person on the other end confirmed my identity, introduced herself, and asked if i could spare ten minutes for the interview. it would be one of the longest ten minutes of my life. haha

then she asked me first about my professional experience so i started narrating it. she also asked me the nature of this job. was there a specialty? what are the common cases handled? things like that.

second question: what are my strengths and weaknesses?

third: difficulties that i have encountered and how i dealt with them.

fourth: how would i adjust to a new environment where there is a lot of multitasking involved, a lot of self-reliance (house chores, homework, research and study) is required, being a foreign country at that.

fifth: the number of applicants exceed the number of slots available. what is my edge against others and why should they choose me instead of them? (i really had to sell myself at this point.lol)

for some reason i could not remember if there was a 6th question or not. all i know is that the call ended and my heart was still beating like mad inside my chest. :nurse::redbeathe

@ Bannockburn: sorry l can't reply by PM as yet. AHPRA responded to me by saying l should first of all get an offer from a BP provider then they can grant me an extension based on the intake dates. However, l should provide that evidence before the 27th of May :-(

hi zonrox.....sorry i just opened my account now and i don't even know how to reply to you.... it's jsut now coz im on a 3 day off.... are you still looking for a room in Bendigo?

just wondering... one needs the confirmation of admission from the school before applying for a visa right?

hello everyone!
