Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Thank you. That's more constructive advice I should say. It's most appreciated. I am now looking into University of Queensland. Will check out Flinder's and USA. Would you know if there are schools in Sydney that offer such conversion program as well?
To be honest, I don't know. I'm not familiar with conversion programs. I don't know if you just directly apply for a program or what.
But here's a sample of a "conversion" program (1 year):
Bachelor of Nursing (Registered Nurse entry) - Flinders University
and here's a course for overseas nurses from University of Wollongong, NSW. It's a two-year program, though.

ALL other approved programs by AHPRA are listed here:

Good Luck!

Republic act 9173 section 26 says you should not even practice nursing without undergoing 1 month of didactic training and 3 months of practicum if you have not practiced nursing in the Philippines for over 5 years. Why do you think you should qualify to practice anywhere else?I think you are missing my question. The only question I have is, given my situation of having graduated more than 5 years ago & without experience, will I absolutely be ineligible to be registered with APHRA and subsequently do a BP? If not, rather than discouraging me, what is the next best & feasible alternative for me? Is it a conversion program or that refresher course that you mentioned?
Hi emdeeRN...you can do the conversion program in those universities...i don't think it requires experience there... those unis were here last February 2012 for IDP's education expo, i don't know when they're going to hold it though... and yes, you can do it in university of queensland too...:) they're cheaper than most universities there
Hello guys! Was there anybody here who went to Australia to personally go to AHPRA to fast track their application? Please let me know guys. thanks!
As far as I can remember, some members of the thread who personally went to AHPRA are already residing in Australia. Like for example, Mr E-nigma who is a permanent resident in Australia. His application was not prioritized even though he is already in Australia. I am quite confused why your case officer told you that if you go there personally it can fast track the application. I think it's a case to case basis because you have submitted your application in NSW? Mr E-nigma submitted his documents in AHPRA-WA. Is your application for final approval already?
hello..im quite new here...hopefully this forum would help me out

this is just out of my own curiosity:
i know the nurses from australia and nz (meaning the citizens or permanent residents) can practice on either countries without much registration requirements because of the trans-tasman mutual recognition act.
i'm just wondering if this can be applied to non-citizens of those countries. i am not an expert on interpreting treaties/law but the nz nursing council's website states:
[color=#002639]applicants with current nursing registration in australia can apply under the trans-tasman mutual recognition act
so does that mean any applicant, regardless of citizenship, as long as they have ahpra registration, can apply for a nz registration under the agreement? and same as with nz registration seeking ahpra registration?
Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for quite some time already and have plans to submit to APHRA myself. But I recently learned about the ARNTP that UniSA is offering. I've attended a seminar they conducted here 2 years ago but didn't buy it because the initial fees they said would cost almost 2M. And now upon inquiring with IDP, I learned it's not that much then at the same time, they have intakes on October and I would be a good candidate if I have the requirements. May I just ask anyone here who had done that program or is taking the one this April and how is it? After the program once you've passed will you be registered at once? And how is it with APHRA since they are the regulating body? Thank you :)
hi! i'm currently attending to one now.. we just finished r days orientation and next week will be the start of everything.. i think i have loads of things to be prepared for.. good thing my visa was granted immediately after signing that health undertaking form..
Thanks for this helpful useful information. It's most appreciated. I will inquire with IDP and see how they can help.Hi emdeeRN...you can do the conversion program in those universities...i don't think it requires experience there... those unis were here last February 2012 for IDP's education expo, i don't know when they're going to hold it though...and yes, you can do it in university of queensland too...:) they're cheaper than most universities there
I see. They just emailed me to send supporting documents and then they emailed again upon receiving the documents. She just told me that i would have to wait for further notice and stuff. Then i asked her about my plan to visit my cousin and go to ahpra personally and she said that i just have to go to the office personally. So i was wondering if there were nurses here who did the same thing. Im gonna wait for the LOE thereAs far as I can remember, some members of the thread who personally went to AHPRA are already residing in Australia.
