New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Not without experience. You can also email your case officer for advice on what to do.
All nurses are expected to keep uptodate have learning portfolios of at least 30hors a year and have practiced at least 3 months of full time nursing. How have you kept uptodate with nursing Practise and what will you offer the community in Australia.? Could you advise AHPRA on this?A local nurse that has not practice in 5 years is also unable to be registered!

I was under the impression that prior nursing experience was not a prerequisite to get a LOE and subsequently apply for a BP. Has this changed already?

It's under criterion 4 under Framework for the assessment of internationally qualified nurses for registration. That criterion was there since AHPRA began. Some schools would not even accept you for a bridging program if you do not have x amount of experience. If you graduated from nursing 5 years ago, it will be expected that you have experience to show that you have practised nursing.

The bridging program is designed for international nurses to adapt to the Australian health care system.

From what i've heard, they will send an email notifying you of your lacking documents when they have started to assess your documents. Most of the time there is a queue or wait list this is due to the high volume of applicants, so it really depends on the pace of your case officer. :nurse:

So how come a lot of the posts here say that there are those who have undergone the BP even with zero hospital experience? Does this only apply to those whom have graduated less than 5 years ago?
