New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

i cannot really give you enough tips coz i was panicking til the last minute. i read all sort of books, and it didnt help at all. it was a 6 minute interview and u can never tell what sort of questions they are going to ask you. for me, it was about post op mgt, and triaging. that is it. try to calm ur mind before going on the interview. try to scan med surg topics esp nsg interventions. it is just easy. you can do it!

hello nurses,

Im about to process my 456 visa,my friend said something about multiple entry. Is that something i have to indicate on my application ? or is it something that the embassy will grant as a condition under 456 visa?

As for Job hunting,is it better to send application during the bridge course? Acfe runs from June 25-sept 14 so in that case we may just have a week before our visas expire.

I want to know regarding requesting for an extension of your visa, should we get an employer first before we can apply for a bridging visa? or we can do that even without employer? i read on page one that you can apply but can someone kindly

walk me through on how exactly can we process an extension visa and how much does it cost?

Thank you so much for that prayer coz I just received an email from IHNA and I'am successful with the interview! :thankya: (now I can breathe! hehe) I really think it is just a formality, anyway they will ask you pretty much about your nursing experience, where most of your exposure at. Im sure you will be alright as well. Good luck! My prayers are also with you. :)

Hi Kat!

I was interviewed last mar 21 also for IHNA. are you going to enroll with them? i got the letter of offer last night and i am in for the sept 17 class at melbourne campus. how bout u? did u already pay for the online course?

I would love to know the answer to this too :)

So how come a lot of the posts here say that there are those who have undergone the BP even with zero hospital experience? Does this only apply to those whom have graduated less than 5 years ago?
I've read somewhere that if you graduated at least 2 years before applying for LOE then they might get an exemption - need to verify this though.Posts made over a year ago may not be true now. Some if not all BP providers now require some amount of experience before being accepted.I'm currently working with a re-entry nurse - she has not practiced nursing in the last 5 years and therefore was not eligible for registration. She need to do a refresher course before she can register. If you don't have any experience and want to work in Australia, you might find yourself returning home empty handed after spending money for a BP. You will compete with foreign nurses with experience or local nurses. Remember also that you will need a sponsor to get a work visa. Ask yourself - what have you to offer if you don't have any experience and graduated x years ago?

I think you are missing my question. The only question I have is, given my situation of having graduated more than 5 years ago & without experience, will I absolutely be ineligible to be registered with APHRA and subsequently do a BP? If not, rather than discouraging me, what is the next best & feasible alternative for me? Is it a conversion program or that refresher course that you mentioned?

Hi ladydeeRN, I was trying to send a reply to your PM but could not. Apparently, your inbox is full. Would love to hear more of your thoughts :)

thank you so much for this marevini... ;)

if we base it on AHPRA's rule, then you are not eligible for registration. And I think AHPRA sent you a letter requiring you to provide proof of recency of practice? Then I assume if you don't have one then your application will not go to the next step.

I have 2 friends, graduated 4 years ago, but they opted to do a conversion program. I think it's for 1 year. One is studying in Flinders and one in Univ of South Australia I think.
