Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

registration process is actually identical regardless of state, but of course with different processing times. i can't see any reason why ahpra will "fast-track" or expedite an application simply because the applicant is present in australia. your paper will still undergo the same review. however, you presence in australia may be beneficial to you since you can personally validate your identity to ahpra once they approve your application. like in my case, i have been approved in-principle by ahpra but i cannot gain full registration because i need to personally visit any ahpra office to validate my identity. and i need to do this within six months or else i need to re-apply.
according to the reps and the case officer i talked to, they are prioritizing applicants who are already in australia for the fact that they're easier to assess. so i asked the reps and even the case officer about my plan to visit my cousin and stay there for at least a month, and also to go to the ahpra office in nsw personally to prove my identity so they can fast track my application. all of the reps and even the officer told me that i can do that. all i have to do is to go to their office personally and present my documents and that's it. i would like to share to you the replies of my case officer about my application and tell me what you think about it.
1.) [color=#454545]confirming your documents have been received and your application is now waiting to be discussed by the reference group. as you are currently in australia could you present at the office in sydney with your passport, visa and two documents with your australian address to prove your identity and allow a criminal record check to be completed.
2.)the reference group will meet every tuesday and the board to approve their decision meets only once a month, so unfortunately it may not be finalised until june.

it would be a good decision to visit ahpra office since you will go to your cousin in australia. i am waiting for my loe for 6 months already. it's taking them long to release the loe because they only meet once a month. . but recently, in ahpra-vic you can get your loe in a month. .
hi! you've been waiting for 8 months now so I am assuming that you submitted yours sometime around july or august and the rep said that it is still impossible for you to get your LOE by june? that's ridiculous! 8 mos is waaaaaayyyy too long already.Exactly, in my case i've been waiting for 8 months now. So we gotta do something to fast track it
Yes, 8 months and i cant wait any longer thats why im gonna expedite my application. How about you?hi! you've been waiting for 8 months now so I am assuming that you submitted yours sometime around july or august and the rep said that it is still impossible for you to get your LOE by june? that's ridiculous! 8 mos is waaaaaayyyy too long already.
hello..im quite new here...hopefully this forum would help me outIv applied in new zealand for a year already had my eligibility within less than a month and a year until present i have no slot in their schools for CAP due to the volume of their applicants thats what they kept sayin. Now I have decided to apply and start a new one in australia..I was wondering if you guys could help me unto where should I apply or on what state in aussie shud i apply for ahpra assesment for a faster eligibility?thankyousomuch..
regards,
lia
I'm assuming you already have an idea on what requirements you need to provide and how the process works.
to answer your question, the processing time kinda varies now. WA used to be the fastest but they kinda slowed down due to the volume of application. I applied in ACT and got my approval after 7 months. One member states he's been waiting for 8 months now and he applied in NSW I think.
if you'll read back, you'll figure out the processing times.
Good Luck!
hi guys! when i inquired regarding my application to ahpra-wa here's what the registration officer told me:
"[color=#454545]please be advised that your application is still awaiting the decision letter for your registration."
i then clarified what she meant about the decision letter and this was her reply:
[color=#454545]"please be advised that the decision letter is deciding on if you will need to complete a registration bridging course or you are eligible for registration without further studies."
[color=#454545]
i know for a fact that for overseas nurse applications, they forward it to the board for the decision. i just want to ask your opinion if the decision letter she was referring to is the actual letter of eligibility to be sent to me or just the decision of the board to be sent to ahpra-wa regarding their stand on my application.
thank you in advance.

in my case, i received my approval 10 days after the board meeting. the board meets once a month. and usually within 2 weeks of the board meeting, they will notify you of the outcome. (at least that's what ahpra-act told me)
