Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Hi. I've been reading all your post and have been a constant lurker of this topic. I am a Dec 2007 passer and an NCLEX passer as well. I've been wanting to apply and get my credentials assessed by AHPRA but I am worried that my application might be denied due to the my work experience. My work experience all-in-all is 9 months. 5 months as a clinic nurse/clinic assistant and the problem is, the clinic that I have worked with has already closed after its 8-month operation due to some issues with regards to their Contract of Lease with the building lessor/owner. They have issued a Certificate of Employment but I am afraid that when the time comes that AHPRA will validate it, it might constitute invalid since its already non-existing. I have no contact with my previous employer from the time of my separation up to the present. Plus, they have not filed for SSS, Tax, Philhealth and other employer-mandated benefits. My second nurse-related work experience is as a PDN for four (4) months, for a CVA, DM Type 1 patient. They haven't issued a COE but they are willing to do so. Question is, with rampant issues of fraudulent documents, how can I prove that my PDN COE is authentic? Paying for the AHPRA assessment is no joke. It's my hard earned money that's on the line and I just wanna make sure that I won't be refused of the eligibility due to the reasons stated above which falls under Standards for Recency of Practice. I hope someone here will help me. Thank you so much!
guys, as a newbie here, i cannot read all messages in this forum because it is already at its 629th page. some are asking same questions over and over again. (sighs)all i wanted to know is about the nursing procedures in australia. i've been a ward nurse in a 40 bed capacity hospital for two years. but there are still skills that i cannot master like iv insertion though ive done it many times and i havent even tried to insert a catheter on a male patient! will the australian hospitals expect too much of me because im already experienced even if i dont know some of these procedures?
thank you.
i strongly believe that we're not suppose to know all nursing procedures just because we have 2 years of experience in a hospital setting! i say "we" 'cos i also have 2 years in the hospital and dont know everything 'cos it´s impossible to know "everything 'cos experince comes with time and as the sentences says "practice makes perfect"
it really depends on the clinic u work and the most practiced tasks. for example, if u work in oncology, probably you´ll know more about iv and central lines than someone who works at orthopaedics, who will know more about splintings than you...see?
also, it depends on what u like doing better and what u do best. another example, i love starting iv´s and my friend loves doing ekg on pts. we both know the same stuff but both do one better than the other due to doing it more often and enjoying it better.
my senior nurse recently told me onething that made reflect about demanding too much of myself:
" i cannot place a 10 year-hospital experience into a 2 year-hospital experience..." making references to her and me....there´s no way to compare or to expect that i´ll know more than she does....
Hi there! I'm a newbie here. I'm a RN in Philippines and my husband is from Australia, right now we're working out for our spouse visa. I just graduated last year APRIL 2011 and took the board exam last JULY 2 & 3, 2011. I have no any working experience yet. I would like to pursue my career in Australia as soon as it is possible.
NOW, let's say my visa is granted and became a citizen in your country via permanent visa. Where am i going to start for me to be able to work as a nurse in your country?
I know i need to take a bridging program.
Actually, I really dunno where to start. please help me. THANK YOU!

Starting point would be meeting AHPRA requirements for foreign trained nurse
hi Makikay,
when I lodged my visa application at VIAC, i was also not given that kind of I.D. a few days after I lodge my application, my case officer from the embassy called me and gave me the go signal to start the medical exam and instructed me to print the forms needed for the medical exam. When I went to Nationwide Healthcare System here in Cebu, they didn't require me the HAP or TRN. They just lined me up for the medical exam and finished it within the day. How did you lodge your visa application? I think they request TRN or HAP for online application, but I'm not sure. Better ask them again or call your case officer at the embassy.
hi guys..Please help me with my query..
I would like to ask if you have any idea how to procure the H.A.P (health request id) or T.R.N (transaction request number) from the Australian embassy. For their latest processing of medical examination, we need to have the HAP ID or the TRN so to start the medical part according to the Nationwide Healthcare system.
I already lodged my visa application but they did not give me that kind of i.d or a form for my medical exam. I really wanted to start the med exam so that my visa application will be ready before January 2012.
Any information is highly appreciated..
Thank you so much!
Hello everyone,
Happy new year! :)
To those who have been granted the 456 visa without the "No further stay clause," are you guys required to get a return flight before going out of the country? I think I read somewhere in this forum that others were able to attend the bp without getting a return flight as they can get an interim visa while onshore... Can anyone please shed light regarding this matter? TIA.
God bless everyone.. Keep the faith burning... :)

hello dimplednurse
i bought a ticket in cathay pacific airlines. According to them, if your visa has NO condition such as "no further stay" and another statement that will not let you buy for a round trip ticket, maybe you can have a one way ticket. As of now, i purchased a ticket off to Australia without a return ticket since i am still waiting for my visa. In your case, you have a multiple entry without any condition maybe you can just buy a one way ticket.
If you wanna be sure you can ask for a further information to others.
God bless you
