New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

@stella: thank you so much for the help. :) Going to my Pedia for my vaccines on Wed. :)

@dreamcake: If you have the money, go for the agency. If you want challenge and to really know the infos try it all by yourself. The people here are very helpful. :)

@ds42: Undergraduate and postgraduate, La Trobe University :)

Hi! Re the application form of La Trobe, what shoul I place in the secondary studies and post tertiary studies?

Does secondary pertains to High School and Post Tertiary pertains to College? I'm a bit confused :(

@aila61: I think that is possible.

Specializes in MS/ED.
where are u taking ur bp?

hello nursenathalie ;)

i will take acfe's bp this coming 2nd week of january ;)

but still waiting for my 456 visa :uhoh3::uhoh3:

guys, as a newbie here, i cannot read all messages in this forum because it is already at its 629th page. Some are asking same questions over and over again. (sighs)

All I wanted to know is about the nursing procedures in Australia. I've been a ward nurse in a 40 bed capacity hospital for two years. But there are still skills that I cannot master like iv insertion though ive done it many times and i havent even tried to insert a catheter on a male patient! Will the australian hospitals expect too much of me because im already experienced even if i dont know some of these procedures?

Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about iv cannulation yet. You'll need to take a short course to qualify anyway. For male IDCs, don't worry about that either. Only doctors do male IDCs in hospital, although I've put one in at a NH once with GPs approval...- only applies to SA, not sure about other states

Thanks for the information. I might just do that as well. You can have a serology check but MMR is really costly. So I opted to have the shots instead. As for varicella though, the price is quite reasonable so I had it tested. You can also have Hep B serology titre. DTap as they call it only requires one shot.

You mean to say, you had serology test for the Varicella and Hepa B while had shots for the MMR? So, the serology is ok after all? How much does an MMR shot cost? How about DTap? can i have that in any pedia clinic? thanks thanks =)

Hi! May I ask if the specific application form for LTU IRON is this one - Postgraduate (interactive application form - PDF 183KB) (application form - PDF 82KB) ? Also, what do we put in the agent details? Can this be a relative or friend from AUS who can do follow-ups on your application?

Meanwhile, I couldn't find the exact requirements for IRON. Do these include?

a. application form

b. IELTS

c. AHPRA approval letter

d. academic qualifications - what are these specifically? ie. TOR, Diploma? It's not clearly stated in the website

Does LTU require police checks ais well?

Also, what do they need in the immunisation shots? MMR, DPT, Hepa, Mantoux? I can't see any in their website =(

help! =( i'm sorry, i'm just a little confused.

For those who did LTU, how long did it take before they process your application?

thanks thaNKS so much =)

i think secondary studies is high school while post tertiary is college. correct me if im mistaken. speaking of which, how about for 2nd coursers? so, we need to indicate our 2 courses under the tertiary section and attach TOR and diploma (?!?) for both degrees?

Yes, you can do that. There's an option in the AHPRA app form where you can write down your agent/relative's information for communication.

From my own experience, they asked for my detailed course outline/description even though I already submitted mine with 9 pages to be exact. It included a brief description of each subject (major and minor) with the corresponding number of hours. I then requested from my school another course description and this time, my school sent an outline of our major nursing subjects only together with its content in bullets plus the total number of hours per subject. Overall, it had 32 pages. On the other hand, a friend of mine from the same university also submitted her application on the same time as mine. We even compared our papers page by page before mailing them. Lucky for her, she wasn't asked for any additional requirements and received her eligibility letter after 3 months. We had different case officers by the way.

Moreover, since my Certificate of Employment didn't specify whether I was full time/part time, they also asked for another one. What I did was requested from my hospital to write down that I work eight hours per day, 5 days a week. I got my eligibility letter a month after my friend got hers - 4 months in total upon receipt of my application.

So basically, your letter totally depends on your case officer. Just pray for the best results and yes, follow what AHPRA requires may it be full time/part time, etc. Consider even the most minute detail to avoid delays. Good luck on your application!:)

gosh! i really hope my application goes into the hands of a lenient officer! thanks thanks for all these tips =) my COE has 40 hours full time, i guess, that will do =) thanks again =)

Hello my brother told me that he will sponsor me when i have a 2 years nursing experience already ?

A. Is he talking about skilled migration via sponsorship?

B. Is my experience enough ? Is volunteer experience counted as an experience while migrating ?

Thank you

i submitted mine in ACT. It was first week of August and up to now I'm still waiting for their decision. They did, however, sent me an email last November 22 saying my documents are complete.

really? have you done follow-ups? call them and inquire. are they sending the AHPRA approval letter via snail mail? or can they just email this one?

hi there! im for ltu's may intake. you just have to submit scanned copies of your documents. in my case, it took a week before i received my letter offer. if you're planning to enroll in ltu, do it now coz slots fill up really fast. as for the vaccination record, they actually require one. just look it up in their site.:)

hey! did you have to pay for the application fee right away when you were about to submit your scanned documents at first? like what i mentioned in my previous posts, i just did Serology tests for Hepa, MMR and Varicella, i hope this will do. While the DPT, this i need to have.

what are their other academic qualifications - TOR, diploma, ielts, ahpra letter? how about police checks?

wow, it's that quick?! just 1 week processing? when do you plan to submit your original copies of transcripts to them? and what type of visa are you vying for? short trip business stay 456?
