Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
why is AHPRA more concerned with IELTS 7 and up than experience?
I would image both are considered important. If they are getting strict with English language skills then there may have been an incident at some time which resulted in an issue that was caused by poor communication skills maybe by someone not speaking English clearly
what are the other nursing opportunities in australia? i prefer non-clinical/hospital job like clinic nurse/nursing home/community/company nurse/mental institution/school/travel nurse/cruise ship nurse/what else?. do you think hospital experience would matter (not like i don't have one) if one doesn't wish to work in an australian hospital in the first place? although i very much hate my community health nursing in college (especially the survey part lol!), i think it's my forte. and i would still like to pursue my dream of being a psychiatric nurse (my parent's think i'm crazy).
Hello, I was wondering how many Filipino nurses who took the bridging program in different colleges/universities in Australia are now hired as a staff nurse? From the time of completion of the bridging program (which is 12-13 weeks if I'm not mistaken), how much time would you have to wait before a hospital hire you and sponsor you a 457 visa?I am currently in the process of procuring the documents needed in the application of being an RN in Australia. I would gladly appreciate any feedback regarding this matter. Thank you very much!
I was wondering how many Filipino nurses who took the bridging program in different colleges/universities in Australia are now hired as a staff nurse? SORRY, no one in our country has been counting the number of Filipino nurses who undergone BP and worked as nurse... one thing for sure, it's lesser than USA and KSA, but had increased in the recent years, but may decrease next year.. for the sake of guessing, maybe 200-500 RNs, or lesser.. hard to guess really...
how much time would you have to wait before a hospital hire you and sponsor you a 457 visa? GENERALLY IT DEPENDS.. WARNING: You cannot totally rely on the previous records because things have been changing rapidly this year.. previous years, you may start working in less than 2 months.. this year, i doubt.. the only exception is that if you are really a super excellent well-experienced nurse then no problem.. so, there are a lot of factors to consider, just remember my warning above..
500 University nursing graduates left without a career pathI hope this is not the case in other states. In my opinion, getting sponsorship now is much harder compared during the past years. There were few old forumers here who shared their experiences and were actually sponsored after they finished their BP.
Well, let's just be optimistic, there is no instant success so we must work hard and persevere more to be a AUS RN. And BTW many shared in this forum before that making good on your BP increase your chances of getting sponsorship, so let's give it all when it is our turn and lastly not to be picky on choosing work hehe. :)
i had shared my thoughts on this matter several pages ago.. i don't want to post or re-write it agen becoz my opinion would be discouraging to others (although i believe what i wrote was very close to the real job-hunting situation in Oz).. so, i would just say, just hope and pray.. but if others would be courageous enough to read what i opined then they may trace back my posts..
good luck bro..
yes i hope the reason why they don't share their success stories is because their busy with their nursing jobs and not picking apples in australian farms (i'm getting hooked on Border Security: Australia's Front Line). apple and orange, anyone?
(1) What is it that we would like to request? For those nurses to share to us everyday their experience? I doubt they will be able to do that, and the reasons are obvious..
(2) Nonetheless, if you read this thread from page 01 of part 1 up to this part 2, you would be able to read RNs who reported that they have finished their BP and have found a job.. I appreciate that they do announced their success prior becoming inactive from this thread..
so in fairness to those nurses, they do tell that they have succeeded and found job, and i understand if they become inactive from this thread, and i do not expect them to keep posting here about their daily tasks.. the mere fact that they posted that they found job is good enough for me to be inspired that your dreams will come true..
HI! Im a registed nurse here in the Philippines with 2 yr-experience at E.r and 3 mos at surgical ward.Im Planning to take up ARNTP by MAy of 2011 via IDP Manila what and where are the recommended place to stay? thanks
"Google-map-wise" where in Australia are you going to study? Australia is a big continent... if i can find you a place in Hobart, with that be okey with you?
hi everyone!:) just today i received a mail from AHPRA and it is the receipt for my application... i sent my documents last august 2010 ( they received it around last week of august).i emailed them on the 2nd week of september asking about my application, they replied on the 18th telling me that they already received my papers, however they are not sure when it will be assessed. so, when i received the mail today it means they are assessing my papers as of oct15, 2010( the receipt date),though i just received the mail today..heheh :)
im a little confused on the "mail" thing. what mail were you talking about? email or postal mail? please clarify..

the success stories that i'm talking about pertains to their employment and not their activities of daily living in australia (hehe). i think i've only read in this thread 2-3 pinoy BP grads who are already employed, don't know about the rest.
POST # 3 EXPERIENCE, VOLUNTEER NURSE, TRAINEE NURSE
1) Yes, AHPRA will accept (presumably will then approve) your application even if you have zero experience.
Hi. I'm a newbie here. I recently graduated this March 2010 and passed the PNLE this JULY 2010. I registered this October 1 and I've been a volunteer at a hospital since October 1 until present. As early as now, I plan to send my documents to AHPRA. I have all my documents ready except for my IELTS and Cert of Good standing. I just want to clarify, I read page 1 and you said I don't need any experience or training at all. But I read the recency of practice facts and it stated that I need 3 months full time training. I'm quite confused and I hope someone can clarify whether I need that training or not. Also, around how much would the certification of the documents cost? Thanks so much!!!
