Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Thanks for the advice! That helped a lot. By the way, I already have my eligibility letter from AHPRA eventhough I dont have IELTS (just submitted cert of medium of instruction). My plan is this: I wanted to secure first a slot for BP and acquire the business visa before ill have my IELTS retake (for the working visa or just to make sure about things when i will be in OZ). Hopefully, I can secure a January or Feb intake of BP next year. Can you recommend a school for me joiemike aside from IHNA? :sofahider
The College of Nursing in Burwood, NSW also accepts applicants without IELTS. For them the eligibility letter from AHPRA is proof enough that your English is acceptable. However you'll be needing a valid IELTS with no less than 7 in each category by the time you apply for a 457 visa. And didn't someone post a while back that AHPRA won't accept certification of English as proof of proficiency starting September? You might encounter problems after your BP (assuming you can finish it without IELTS) because AHPRA might still require you to submit an IELTS result before granting registration.
I think you guys might find that the BP schools were not requiring proof of IELTS at 7 because they thought that AHPRA were requiring this first from all the applicants that needed BP, there was lots of confusion of assessment officers and people got through form non english speaking countries with their grade of english secondary and tertiary english.
This left the BP schools that did not require to sight the IELTS in a vulnerable position legally, because they were now letting 'student nurses'in direct patient care without any check of their english standard by exam.....legally if anything goes wrong through miscommunication they the BP schools could be held legally responsible... their is no nationa exam to test english 'standard 'but just a trusting that a secondary school in another country and university communicated up to an english speaking country........well........but what about clinical practise? was that done in totally in english? no and this is the most important bit!!!
i thought you guys might want to know this...
during my application for 456 visa, I did not include my IELTS result among the documents that I sent, thinking that this was fine.. a day after they confirmed that they got my documents, I received a call from my case officer, telling me to submit my IELTS result. I asked them if I can just send them a copy of my expired IELTS since I haven't received my recent IELTS result yet. The case officer asked me to wait as she tried to confirm this with a higher authority.. After a few minutes, I was told to wait for my current IELTS, and submit it as soon as I get it. They will not accept my expired IELTS... This caused some delay in my processing, but Praise God I got my visa already...
My point here is, I believe that IELTS is really necessary when applying for anything in Australia... AHPRA requires this, the schools require this and the Australian embassy requires this... You may get away without the IELTS during your application in AHPRA and other BP schools, but u still need to consider your visa application... So its really better if you try to pass the required minimum score for the IELTS...

some employers require IELTS as well.
Wow, this is the first time I've heard about the DIAC requiring IELTS even just for a 456 visa. DIAC did not ask for my IELTS but I remember I submitted a copy of my eligibility letter from AHPRA. Thanks for sharing this Mhai. At least others will be informed and also I hope this reiterates the fact that as of today there's no bypassing the IELTS anymore.

I guess it depends on the case officer... Or maybe it really is a new requirement for all nurses applying for a 456 visa...
i have friends who got their business visa for BP and they didnt send an IELTS result.. how about that? when did you process your visa mhai? coz my friend got her visa last august..
Neither did I. So as Mhai mentioned I guess it really depends on the consul/case officer. I got mine last August 31.
