Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hello! I just want to ask if the eligibility letter is suppose to state whether the applicant is to be assessed as an EN or RN? I forwarded my eligibility letter to a bridging program provider and I was asked to contact AHPRA to clarify whether it's for EN or RN. I applied for RN so I am assuming I was granted eligibility for what I applied for. There was no mention of RN or EN in the letter.I also want to know if it will help to secure a slot if I have an agent or will I have an equal chance even if I apply on my own?
Thanks guys!
I also encountered this dilemma. I got so worried about it because this was what the CON asked for - a clarification. When I got hold of AHPRA though, they insisted that the phrasing is standard for all AHPRA eligibility letters. If it's an eligibility letter for "Application for Registration as a Nurse" - it means Registered Nurse... Otherwise, the AHPRA letter would have stated "Application for Registration as an Enrolled Nurse".
If CON insists on further clarification, AHPRA told me to let that person from the school call them. They would not issue a letter of clarification.
Hiring an agent for a fee is a waste of money, I think. I paid $500 last year for an agent to help me look for a bp slot in NZ and he never delivered. For as long as you apply to as many schools as possible with good credentials (i.e. enough work experience and good IELTS scores) you will have a very good chance. The schools, like AHPRA, will treat all applications on a first come first served basis. So I suggest you apply asap.
hello peeps,if you have a 456 visa, do you need to have a round trip (two-way) ticket back home even if you are planning to extend or apply for a different visa after your bp?
are the immigration officers in australia strict when it comes to this?
thanx :)
God bless to those who will be having their September and October intakes!
Hi, I'm on a 456 right now and taking the BP course in AAON, I have a one-way ticket...I wasn't questioned at all by the australian immigration, but was questioned by the Phil immigration...I just informed them that I am studying a BP course, etc... and yeah, they let me pass and wished me luck! :)
Is there a way to avail a FREE BP?What if i migrate to australia sponsored by a relative can i avail a FREE BP?
Can i have a points in points system in migration if I only have a volunteer exp and not a paid exp?
thanks you all
for migration purposes, experience should be paid employment....
if you become a PR in australia, there are options available for you to finance your BP.....
Hi! Has anyone here applied for BP at IHNA? Can anyone give me an idea of their processing time frame? (how many days before they provide you with an offer letter and all that). :)
I submitted my application to IHNA too. I sent it three weeks ago but I still haven't heard anything from them also.

Just exactly how will you apply as skilled migrant if not a Registered nurse in Australia?to get extra points as having a relative requires relative to live a rural or remote area and to get points for work experience must be at least 3 years paid work also to get points for community language one must have Naati certificate and that is difficult to obtain. Sorry for the negative reply but this is the way it is.If you get pr? then you will need to do BP at a cricos provider as they can provide the deferral to the tax system
Hi there CeridwynRN!!!May I ask as to the exact length of time ( in weeks) from the moment you applied for the 457 Visa?
I will be at La Trobe next year. My IELTS will be expiring next year also on May 20.
If I'd be lucky to have an early exit at 9th week, then that would be by March 16.
If not, then I'll take the entire 13-week course. So that gives me April 13th as the completion date.
I'm actually kind of worried during processing for the 457 if my IELTS will expire before the Visa will be fully approved...
Thanks in advance for the helpful minds!
Hi Invanz
From the context of your post, you are applying for BP but you are applying for a 457 visa which is a work visa; an employer sponsored work visa. Different from a student visa that many people from this thread are looking into. We'd like to find out if you are on a work visa (457) or a student visa. Thanks
13 weeks with an entry exit option in the 8th or 9th week if we perform well.la trobe requires a student visa since IRON falls under the CRICOS course.
yes it is more expensive but come to think of it, the tuition is cheaper compared to other schools and also, with the student visa, we can do partime work. i just dont know if we have that luxury though since BP is an 8hour per day program
but who knows right?
are you sure we are allowed to work??
