New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Yes!

------------------

It seems to me that AHPRA is requiring a detailed course outline. I only sent my TOR (with nursing theory hours and clinical hours) and my CGFNS CES (just so I can provide more nursing credentials that they can assess). I haven't heard from AHPRA regarding my application, so I requested a course description/outline from my school just in case they ask for it.

Alright. :) Thank you so much iamnomad! Another P1500 for requesting and sending this. Well, this is it.

Much love :redbeathe

Anybody doing the next upcoming BP in La Trobe? If you're seeking accommodation arrangements let me know.

Hi there Haoyin!

Thanks for all your posts about La Trobe.

I am for their January 2012 intake, Jan. 12 to be precise.

Is it possible for you to help me find a cheap accomodation?

Thanks very much!

me too..i have decided to go for la trobe this january. how did you enroll? and i too am looking for accommodations.

I also got an offer from La Trobe University too. But I'm still undecided to accept it since Bendigo is quite far from where my Aunt's house.

I'm still on the lookout for other schools with January intake.

I applied thru IDP- Cebu. The processing was free including DHL courier payment when I secured the place.

Would glad to be a mate of yours in the near future.

I will be waiting for Haoyin's reply. He's been there before so I think he can give us a good place to stay.

Hi! Im hoping to be included in their january intake. I'll let you know when they respond positively. (hopefully :D)

Processing at LTU is fast. It just took me 2 days for the offer letter and the when I sent them the offer acceptance form plus the total tuition fee deposit, I received the eCOE in just 3 days.

I suggest that you pay them immediately as soon as you are being offered a place for the course.

Do you think they still have slots? May I ask what month did you apply? :)

re : 456 vs. 676 visa (business short stay vs. tourist visa)

hi mhai and everyone,

this is my email to the australian embassy in manila :

to whom it may concern,

greetings.

i am xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, a registered nurse from xxxxxxxx, philippines. i have recently been granted by ahpra a letter of eligibility to undergo a bridging program to become a registered nurse in australia. i also have a letter of offer from etea (one of the accredited schools) for their 3 oct 2011 intake.

in this connection, may i request for your confirmation on the advice of etea that i can apply for subclass 456 or subclass 676 visa (please see the email letter from etea subsequent to mine for your reference). i prefer the 676 visa because i will be visiting my first cousin's family in xxxxxxx after my schooling. the proposed timeline of my stay in australia is as follows :

departure to melbourne : last week of sept 2011

start of classes at etea : 3 oct 2011

end of classes : xx dec 2011

departure to xxxxxxxx : xx dec 2011

exit from australia : xx jan 2012

my relatives have already given me their invitation letter with scanned copies of their australian passports and recent income tax return signifying their offer of support for my financial and accommodation needs while in australia.

i hope to be able to lodge my application for the 676 visa this thursday after undergoing the medical tests for nurses this wednesday.

looking forward to your prompt and favorable response.

sincerely yours,

xxxxxxxxx

this is the prompt response of the australian embassy today :

dear xxxxx,

thank you for your email.

please be informed that since your primary purpose to visit australia is to undertake the bridging course for overseas nurses, then it

is only appropriate to lodge a business short stay visa application. please do note that this type of visa can only be granted with a maximum

length of stay for up to three months.

the tourist visa subclass 676 is used primarily for recreation and toursim purposes. if a client holds a 676 visa but intends to visit australia

for a business visit, let's say, to attend a course, the client might get questioned at the immigration.

i hope this information helps. thank you.

yours sincerely,

although the response is straightforward, he did not categorically say that we can't use 676 visa for the bp. he just mentioned that we "might" get questioned by immigration at the airport. if anybody will use the 676 visa for the bp, i think it best to just inform the immigration officer at the airport that you are there just to visit relatives and do sightseeing.

but i have decided to lodge a 456 visa tomorrow. have completed all the medicals and supporting docs already. hectic 2 days for me but well worth it. i can just sit and wait for the release of the visa this month.

i will just come home for the holidays for 2 weeks to be with my kids and wife. no use of staying there for 2 to 3 weeks anyway waiting for my rn license. instead of spending on accommodations, food, etc. and feeling very homesick, i will just be singing " i'll be home for christmas...."

:clpty:

You do know that if your short term business visa does not have endorsed on it ''no further stay'' that you can apply for your tourist visa onshore to extend your stay....and can then stay up t 3 mnths as a tourist and if find a job then apply for the 457 all without going home....

How about the student visa then? IDP Counselor mentioned that it can be extended for up to 2 months after you finish your BP, Is this true? Has anyone tried extending their stay while using a student visa? :)

Yup. I am aware of that. It's what my niece exactly did last year. But me and my wife want the family to be together for the holidays and feel the :redpinkhe while singing "Chestnuts roasting on the open fire....." :clown:
