Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

oh, i see. thank you for that.but can you enlighten me on what i know regarding this?
ahpra will be the one to assess if you are eligible for registration, so since you have been given a letter for eligibility to undergo a bp, is it because you are not yet eligible for registration (your qualification was not enough for their standards)? and since you have not provided the required band score. do they have the right to at least give the applicant an option to resit for ielts/ undergo english course while doing the bp?
tia :)
i haven't met or heard of anyone from this thread who were given an eligibility letter and were approved to undergo bp without the required ielts score. others were able to bypass ielts but they provided certifications from their schools here in the philippines that the subjects taught were in english. but i don't think that would be allowed now, kindly read the link posted by iamnomad earlier regarding ahpra's memo about their english requirement.
hi everyone!i need your opinion on this matter.
the required ielts band score is 7 across for all the 4 components. and is applicable for application for registration as a registered nurse in au. the applicant was able to meet the over-all band score of 7 but has 6.5 in one component, and the purpose of submission of requirements is for assessment only. what do you think ahpra will do with such case?
1.will they proceed on assessing the documents?
2.will they recommend for an ielts retake without the eligibility letter for bp
3. or they will give an eligibility letter and ielts result depends on where you take the bp?
note: considering that the application's only problem is the ielts result.
hi. you will resit the ielts exam. you said yourself that the requirement is a score of 7 for all the 4 components.
:):) at long last, this has always been the protocol for english assessment, thank goodness some bp schools insisted on IELTS at 7 and DIAC, even if it was for negligence reasons.
I was speaking to a lecturer the other day from bp school about a student of her bp school. This student, got assessed for bp without IELTS 7 by AHPRA, because their nursing course was in english and they went to secondary school in english. This student was not from one of the exempt countries.
They could not be understood, allowed by AHPRA, bp school, to attend bp, bp school did not insist on sighting english test.....applicant did not pass first week of BP, not understood, could not go on clinicals... student still insisted they were good at english because AHPRA passed them for eligiblity......did not pass bp would not pass DIAC anyway.
AHPRA must have been told to lift their game. BP school now insisting sighting Ielts 7 now even with AHPRA eligibility letter.
how is the BP schedule like? is there a lot of free time to find or work for a parttime job in case the nurse possesses a student visa?
im just asking because i read at the other forum that the BSN course in Flinders is just 3x a week in which sometimes there is only one classroom based lecture per week since other lectures can just be videostreamed. while in ACU, the classes are at least 4 hours a day, 3x a week with no classes on weekends.

Hi there ceridwyn :) Are you working in AU already? :) I'm just curious of your nationality? Since most posters here are Filipinos i think. That is if you don't mind me asking
just a reminder that posting in clear english and not text talk etc will assist you in passing the writing part of ielts or other approved english exam as well as part of the terms of service of the site you agreed to when you joined
please do not type entirely in capitals as considered shouting on the internet! desiring to maintain professionalism, text speak (also known as chatspeak, txtspk, texting language or txt talk) is discouraged. along with using proper english spelling and punctuation, this shows respect for the owner, other bulletin board members & guests and makes it easier to read your important thoughts.
the theoretical hours is different from the rle in hours. that's what happened to me also. just ask from your school to make another certification enumerating the theoretical subjects (as in lecture subjects) you took per sem and put the number of units and number of hours per subject beside. that will be fine.
thanks for the advice. i went to my school and showed them the mail i got from ahpra. the registrar told me that he will just print another tor with additional columns indicating the # of lecture hours and # of lab hours. he did the same for an alumnus who applied as a nurse somewhere in bahrain. would that suffice?
he also told me to have the course outline printed and sent to ahpra, just to be sure.
i also have some concerns:1. when is the best time to ask the prc to mail the cert of good standing? should it be before i lodge my papers to ahpra?
2. how do i certify my photocopy of passport and prc? thank you!
1. hi, jesjay. i think it's better to send your cert of good standing after you have lodged the application. prc mailed my cert of good standing a week after i sent my application thru dhl. i don't know...it really depends upon your decision.
2. you can find the answer to your question in the ahpra website:

each AHPRA office has different processing times for overseas nurse application. and I think (and I maybe wrong) you may lodge your application but it will not be assessed or your will not receive any acknowledgment receipt of your applications til weeks after submission. and based on this, you can still submit your IELTS results maybe few weeks after you lodge your application. but again, I maybe wrong coz I just based this on their processing time, which may only be applicable to some.
