New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Greetings to all.

I guess this will settle most of the questions regarding English language requirements. AHPRA released a revised English language requirement.

http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/News/2011-08-29-New-English-Language-Skills-Registration-Standard.aspx

Guys, new standards from APHRA with regards to secondary education.

means that applicants who have completed a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of combined secondary and/or vocational and/or tertiary education taught and assessed in English, in: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States of America are considered to have met the standard and therefore do not need to sit an English language test. All other applicants are required to submit evidence of English proficiency

hi guys... can you help me with my form 26 and form 160 for the medical?? what should i write in the question

How long do you intend to stay in Australia? the choices are PERMANENTLY or TEMPORARILY.

I might be applying for tourist visa with a duration of six months... should this be what i will be writing?? because we all know we want to find work in AU and stay there permanently...

which should I tick??

i have the same concern with no.1.. but i prefer sending it upon confirmation that they received my documents. it's up to you :) but i hope somebody will enlighten us about this matter.

certifying your passport will be with a notary public. what do you mean by prc?.. license? it's same with other documents, it is through a notary public.

note: i'm open for any corrections :)

i dunno in the phils but here in brazil, my cet.of good standind took a month to be issued and plus another month to arrive at ahpra as it was sent through regular mail, so thank god i asked for it before my other docs were sent to ahpra.

but it´s really up to you.....my opinion: the faster you arrange things, the better for you:d

TEMPORARILY.

oh, i see. thank you for that.

but can you enlighten me on what i know regarding this?

ahpra will be the one to assess if you are eligible for registration, so since you have been given a letter for eligibility to undergo a bp, is it because you are not yet eligible for registration (your qualification was not enough for their standards)? and since you have not provided the required band score. do they have the right to at least give the applicant an option to resit for ielts/ undergo english course while doing the bp?

tia :)

this is the eligibility letter i received from ahpra. i hope it can shed some light on you query :

re: application for registration as a nurse

in order to progress your application for registration as a nurse, it is necessary for you to successfully complete a board approved bridging course for registration of overseas qualified nurse within twelve (12) months of the date of issue of this letter. extensions beyond this date will not be granted.

when ahpra receives evidence of your successful completion of board approved bridging course, we will progress your application for registration if you have met all the registration standards including proof of identity, criminal history check and current english language requirements.

please do not hesitate to contact xxxxxxxxxxxx, registration officer, on xxxxxxxxxxxxx should you require further explanation or to make an appointment.

yours sincerely

going back to your question about the ielts requirement. based on the eligibility letter that ahpra gave me, they assessed my english requirements during the initial assessment process and they are going to re-assess the enumerated above-mentioned requirements again after i finish my bp before they will finally grant my rn license. that's what happened to my niece last year. that's also why i took an ielts test again last july 30, 2011 because my previous ielts test result will expire sept 26, 2011 well before i finish my bp. ;)

If ever you have lodged your application without the IELTS result yet, how many weeks or months will they give you for you to be able to comply with the IELTS requirement? Thanks

Just like other outstanding documents, AHPRA usually give 30 days to submit documents that you lacked to include in the application. So, I guess you will be given 30 days to submit the IELTS test result when your registration officer emails you. But you can ask for an extension and they will usually grant it. The danger with this option you are thinking though is the very small window for you to comply with the requirement. What if you failed to pass the minimum score of 7 in all bands or wasn't able to take the IELTS test on the scheduled date because of illness. Many things might happen that might derail your IELTS test result to be released on time. The result will also take time to be released. I got my Test Result Form 2 weeks after I took the test last July. If you are not able to submit your IELTS test on time to your registration officer after asking for a few extensions, AHPRA will consider your application "ABANDONED".

If I were you, just comply with ALL the necessary required documents before submitting your application to AHPRA. That way, you will not be pressured to comply with outstanding docs. Au$450 + COST OF DOCUMENTS +COST OF COURIER + sleepless nights, nightmares, anxieties, stress, etc. ARE too costly and painful to go through. :lol2::D:uhoh3:. Just my two cents worth. ;)

Temporarily. ;)

the national board reserves the right at any time to

require any applicants, or registrant on renewal of

registration, to undertake a specified english language

test.

note : underscore supplied by me.

the above excerpt is culled from the new guidelines regarding evidence of english proficiency to be strictly implemented by ahpra this month. so, correct me if i'm wrong, there is no way out of ielts anymore....even to those who were able to skirt away out of the requirement before. by the time you renew your license the following year, better not be shocked when you will have to submit yourself to an ielts test.

where my wife works, they recently hired a filipino nurse who just finished her bridging program. she applied as rn but she only had an overall score of 7 in ielts so ahpra required her to sit another ielts exam before she can get registered. the nursing home was understanding enough to give her enough time to be able to take her ielts before starting work as an rn. she said she had to get another visa while waiting for her exam due in october. in the meantime she works part time (10hrs) a week as a pcw. she had the right cv, the right attitude and money to burn.

hello everyone. ill just ask where did you get travel and health insurance? I read from this forum about Chartis Insurance. I visited their website. do we have to secure Travel and Accident and health insurance? thank you!

Hi everyone. I need your help.

I received an email that confirms that my application has been received by AHPRA. Then she also mentioned below:

"In order that your application can be assessed further, could you please forward a certified copy of the course outline or student handbook from the university or institution where your qualification was conferred. We do not require the whole course syllabus, simply an outline of the courses conducted, and the theoretical and clinical units undertaken within each course.

Please be aware that once your application has been assigned to a Registration Officer and the documentation has been checked in detail, you may be asked to provide further documentation/information.

Please ensure you include the name that appears on your passport and your date of birth on the document.

This mail box is not monitored, if this is applicable to you please respond to [email protected]"

When she mentioned FORWARD, does she mean that I need to send it to AHPRA our course outline?

Thanks a bunch.

Yes!

------------------

It seems to me that AHPRA is requiring a detailed course outline. I only sent my TOR (with nursing theory hours and clinical hours) and my CGFNS CES (just so I can provide more nursing credentials that they can assess). I haven't heard from AHPRA regarding my application, so I requested a course description/outline from my school just in case they ask for it.
