Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Emailed my application Aug 1. They emailed their acknowledgement of my application on Aug 5. They said I am waitlisted for the next intake. There was no interview at all.
wow! I mailed my application August 2. But they probably received it a week later.
Mercy is cheaper by 4k. I hope that they will respond too.
can student visa be converted to tourist visa while the student is in Australia? If not, what is the best option to lengthen the stay in Australia if after the BP, there is no available 457 sponsorship yet.Does student visa has a "no further stay" clause?
Yup I think you can convert your student visa to tourist visa if you meet the criteria and your student visa is still valid once you lodged your application for tourist visa.

Student visa for courses of less than ten months are not eligible for apply for extension, only those student visas in which the student is enrolled in a course with duration of 10 months onward are granted to apply for extension.
I believe that you´ve been reading in this thread that bp schools are already full for this year, so if you were blessed enough to have a chance to do ur bp still this year, you should take this opportunity even it will cost u more....I´ve been searching school for next year (I'm waiting for my so dreamed elegibility letter:heartbeat) and lots of schools replied that their 1st intake for 2012 is already full.
What I wouldn´t give to have my letter right now and be able to finish this bp ASAP.
My opinion: enroll at ETEA
Thanks for your opinion Nathalie. I also asked for advice from my niece who is here now for a 2 week paid leave from Aus. She said that ETEA is a good and established school. What's nice with them is that there is an early exit in the 9th week if you do well in the theory and clinicals. Another advantage is that their hospital affiliations are just nearby... unlike the one where she graduated from that sent her far thus needing her to transfer accommodations.
I will just try to play it by ear though. If Mercy Health will give me a positive response by the end of this week, I will take it.
By the way, for those who are having 2nd thoughts about getting a job in nursing homes after the bp, don't be disappointed. My niece did start with a lower salary in her present job right now because she did not have any work experience at all. But her employer promised her that after 1 year, she will receive a substantial increase... about 40%!!!! And that's just the basic pay. Before coming home for her 2 week vacation, she received an OT and weekend pay of about 165% based on her basic pay. That's not bad considering she is still on her 6th month with the company.

Your niece works in a nursing home?
Thanks for sharing this :) Super appreciated.
Hi Guys,I would like to ask for your opinion/advice. I just got a letter of offer from ETEA for their Oct 3 intake. But the problem is, their tuition fee is Au 14k. It's very expensive!!!! I submitted application to other BP schools. My first choice would have been Mercy Health for their Nov intake. But the person in charge is on sick leave and she emailed me to give her 5 more days to assess my application. Mercy Health is a chain of hospitals and at the same time they have a nursing home. Their tuition fee is only Au 10K.
By the way, I have 21 months work experience as an ER nurse. Would it be a good idea to wait for other offers? ETEA is only giving me 1 week to pay for the tuition fee.
pm.ed you...=) God bless to us!!hehehe

Yup. She works for one of the biggest nursing home group in Aus and NZ. The company even shouldered all the expenses for the working visa and 2 week training in Sydney. And my niece didn't even expect to get paid because she still didn't have her working visa during the training. But she got paid for it!!
