New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hi, I tried lodging my 456 visa today, I was told by the person in the embassy that because my school has a CRICOS code, a student visa should then be applied for. He even told me that I can still go on and lodge my 456 visa but he is unsure of the outcome. What do I do?? Intake starts in 8 Sept...:(

As long as you have a confirmation of enrollment from your school, I think you will get your 456. Try calling your school and insist that a letter coming from them instructing on the kind of visa needed for your course is required to get a visa. I took my course at the College of Nursing and they sent me a letter confirming my slot in the BP contingent to acquiring the "appropriate visa". That is how they stated it in the letter, I had no problems getting my 456. :D

Yes, you would still need an Australian police check during clinical placement. You would also need it for AHPRA registration and when you apply for jobs.

Thanks for replying. So where did you apply for your police check? While you were still here in Manila? I rang the coordinator of CON yesterday and she said that she thinks I still have time to do it in Sydney because I would be needing it for clinical placement, so I still have roughly 4 weeks once I get there. How long did it take by the way? You applied to AFP in Canberra (by mail) right?

Were you required to have your Medical exam? Were you given a 456 multiple entry? Thanks in advance...

Hi there. We're not exactly on the same boat but let me share with you my experience.

My BP will start on September 26. Before I submitted an application for my visa I called up the coordinator from CON and asked her what visa should I apply for. She said most students present either a 456 (short business stay) or a 676 (tourist visa). I have heard that 456 is processed faster but I opted to apply for a 676 because my husband also wanted to go to Sydney prolly on our son's sembreak or on Christmas break. So we lodged our application last July 27. We were told that it would take at least 7-10 business days. Then on the 10th business day I received a call from the embassy instructing me to change my application from a 676 to a 456 visa! Plus I had to undergo the Medical exam . I was informed that results usually take 1-2 weeks. Of course I had no choice but to comply so the next day (August 11) I submitted a new app form and went to Nationwide Health Systems. It's funny because my husband and son got their 676 visa (they were granted 676 multiple entry :)) that same day. Now I'm worried I might not have my visa in time for the start of the BP in CON. The coordinator gave me a deadline to submit a scanned copy of my visa-- September 9. However the lady from the embassy assured me that she will be the one to follow up with the clinic and that my application will be prioritized because they are aware of the date of CON's intake. I dunno, maybe because I almost cried when she called me and she heard the anxiety in my voice haha! So now I'm still waiting...:uhoh3:

Anyway I suggest you call the embassy and ask if you still need Medicals. Because if they say you still do then I'm not so sure if they can still give you a visa in time for your BP provider's intake (1st week of September, right?). Prolly you can also tell them that someone from the school advised you the 456 so they know it's not your fault. I just hope they'll allow you to forgo a Medical exam. According to their website processing time for a 456 is shorter than 676; it's the Medical exam that will take time. Good luck and God bless on your application!

So for others who have yet to lodge a visa application, I suggest you call and ask your school AND also call the embassy to inquire what visa will be suitable in your case. Schools may suggest what visa we can apply for but at the end of the day, it's still the embassy who will decide what visa to grant.

after 6 weeks... i now have my eligibility letter. all praise to God!

Hi! What state have you lodge your application?

apply anywhere but VIC please!Have mercy on yourself.:lol2:

go for WA, based on previous posts, processing is quicker there. goodluck!

What do you mean? If i lodge my application in WA, can i still have the opportunity to enroll for BP at VIC?

Hoping for your reply.Thank you. God bless!:)

You can have police checks when you're in Australia. As far as I know, police check in Victoria is around 33AUD. Try to check in Sydney how much.

Yes. A medical exam is required to get a 456 visa. The results of that same medical exam can be used when you lodge your application for a 457 visa. Medicals are valid for 1 year. I was given a 456 with multiple entry valid for 1 year.

Also, there is a police station about 5 minutes from the CON - you can get your police clearance certificate there. :D

i decided to read from page 1 onwards! :D

getting police check here is easy, but just double check how long you can obtain the result, i forgot if it's 1 or 2 weeks.. i think you just need your passport..

I think you need proof of address in Australia as well like a bank statement.
