New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Yes. A medical exam is required to get a 456 visa. The results of that same medical exam can be used when you lodge your application for a 457 visa. Medicals are valid for 1 year. I was given a 456 with multiple entry valid for 1 year.

Also, there is a police station about 5 minutes from the CON - you can get your police clearance certificate there. :D

HI there macpao. That's so nice that they grant you a 456 visa with multiple entry and valid for 1 year :yeah: How did you ask for a year validity? Because I thought that it's just valid for 3months. I am also considering CON. Still waiting for my papers to be assessed by AHPRA though :)

To those who got a 456 visa, can you give me a time frame from the moment you lodge your visa application, had your medical to the time you got your visa. Thank you. I'm really concerned that I might not have a visa by the time the IRON program commences on September 8 because I only lodge my visa application today August 19 and had my medical August 17.

I didn't request for my visa to be 1 year, they just gave me that. To be clearer, the validity of the visa is 1 year, but you are only allowed to stay 3 months per entry.

You can try asking the clinic where you will have your medicals done how long before the results are sent to VIA. I did my medicals 1 month before I applied for a 456 visa to be safe. Just tell them that you are in a hurry because your class will start soon. I'm not sure if they will consider, but there's no harm in trying. :D

Thanks, I already did. I sent an email to them, appealing to the goodness of their heart if they can expedite the processing of my medical, hopefully they can consider my request.

Is there a "No Further Stay" condition on your visa? I mean I know it's a multiple entry but can you extend your stay, beyond 3 months? In your case did you have to come back here after 90 days or were you blessed to have had an employer before the 90th day? Or did you ask for an extension (like 90 days+ another 90 days)? Sorry for all the questions and thanks again.

I really hope they would also grant me a multiple entry.

I did my medicals at Nationwide Health in Makati. They said it usually takes 1-2 weeks before they forward the results to the embassy. Then according to the time frame on their website (VIA center or DIAC not sure) 456 visa usually is processed within 5-7 business days. So I guess 3 weeks total is the minimum. By the way, I called the clinic this morning and asked if they already forwarded my results. The lady said mine will be included in next week's batch. To think I had my medicals last August 11.. :uhoh3:

Forwarded the results to the Australian Embassy in the Philippines or forwarded the results to Australia for their clearance? From what the lady at the via center told me, it takes a while for the medical to be forwarded to the embassy because results are first being sent to Australia..

Not so sure about this... But from what I've read, processing a 456 is faster compared to other visas. I know I've read somewhere that it only takes 5-7 days. Besides, what's the use of having an embassy here if they need approval for something from overseas? Then again, I'm not so sure about this. Why don't you call the numbers for the embassy (not VIA center)? Maybe they can address your concern. I hope you can get your visa in time.

I will, thank you.. By the way, where will you be taking your BP?

I was given multiple entry without any conditions like no further stay. I was able to get an employer before the 90 days, but I decided to come home to Manila while the employer fixed my documents needed for the sponsorship. I think it would be useless to stay there since I'm not allowed to work on my 456 and will spend a lot more if I decided to stay there. :D

Congratulations! Where did you take your BP? Is it possible one to apply for work even though the BP course is not yet finished and the person is not yet registered?
