New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

:) hi guys! i would just want to ask you if say for example I have successfully completed my E.N course, how many years or months(?) would it take for me to become an R.N in Australia? do I still have to study for 2years as required by the university? I am thinking of taking the E.N course in Adelaide or in Melbourne through TAFE, but many people are saying it's better in Melbourne because of work opportunities (for part time).

Any recommendations?

I actually would want to take BP but i'm afraid can't because I still lack years of experience which I believe is a prerequisite for enrollment. I only have 3months experience (volunteer nurse) in a hospital here in the Philippines. So i think that leaves me no choice but to take E.N first before R.N

i don't know if anyone has experienced this.

I've been tracking the mails that I and IELTS sent to AHPRA. I sent mine through US Postal Service and I really can't track my package. The testing agency sent it through FedEx and it shows that the mail is now ready for pick up. I used the GPO address. Is it normal for FedEx or any mail service to have AHPRA pick the mail up?

why don't you just wait till you get enough experience even for just a year?? You can save more than when you take an EN course then take 2 years as RN... you can get enough experience while waiting for the AHPRA result which could take 5-7months, enough for you to reach 1 year... They don't really care if your a volunteer nurse or a staff nurse, its the experience they're after...

anyone here have any idea, how much is the tuition fee for AAON? how long is the duration of their BP intake? what is their email add? when are the schedule of their intakes? because I can't seem to open their website.

Thnx in advance!

Hi, AAON has an intake in September, they're a partner of UB so tuition fee is same as UB's - 10,000. Try googling AAON Melbourne, you'll find their site. :)

Yes, if you a Filipino, how will you get sponsorship if you do not have permanent residency? EN not on the immigration list, so employers are NOT suppose to sponsor unless you are an RN.

I think AHPRA may have difficulties accepting someone that is/cannot be recognised in

own country, does not have home registration, if you are from the Phillipines that is.

You cannot work part-time unless you are a permanent resident.

Aged care workers, assistants in nursing are not on list either.

Unless your nursing school is of university standard or tafe standard...it would be up to the individual university to ascertain your qualifications and give what credits they think you will be entitled too....your course still may be 3 years. You will not be accepted in a graduate program.

If you do the Diploma in Nursing here, this should still not lead to sponsorship and full time job....you still should be RN as this is on the immigration list.

read the replies of Mhai and Ceridwyn..

to sum up:

1) are you a PR or not? you need a valid visa to work as EN or RN in Oz.. You CANNOT be granted a work visa as an EN.. as what Ceridwyn explained..

2) if you can afford to study EN and later on RN in the Oz which will costs hundreds of thousands perhaps a million of pesos, then (as what Mhai said) better used that money by being a volunteer nurse in the phils (as your monthly allowance) and after your duty every week as volunteer nurse, use the money to enjoy life at the bars there, i missed our gimik bars there..

cheers mate!

im sorry, im just a little bit confused on what you have written... pardon me for that... anyway my reply in general is as follow:

TO EVERYBODY /NEWBIE :

If you send documents using postal service (phil. or US or whatever), use the GPO or PO Box address of the receiver...

If you send documents using private courier (fedex, dhl), use the office address of the receiver, do not use the GPO or PO BOX..

It is hard to track mails using the postal service, unless you have it "registered", meaning the receiver is required

to sign "received" and then that receipt is sent back to you..

hello rajotolentino.... my interview was fine i guess... She had some situational questions about morphine administration and what to do if you can't understand the other person on the line.. Im not sure if i got the morphine thing right but she told me in Au the protocol was to have two nurses check the charts and administer the drug...hehehe

I never got the chance to ask her when their next intake will be... as for my interview result she said they'll just email me... praying fervently for a good result...=)

Hi Mhai! I submitted my application form and other requirements @ INHA through e-mail yesterday. Until now I haven't received any feedback from them. How long did it take for you to get a reply from them after you have sent your application?

Thanks:D

Anyone who applied for AAON? The link for their application form is not working.

Me! I was interviewed last week. You have to send them an email and ask them to send you an information sheet and application form. Good luck! :)

hello independent_chiq.... their agent replied to me around 2 days after receiving the documents... Why don't you give them a call or send them an email asking them to confirm if they have received your attached documents. I did just that to all the schools I have applied and almost all of them told me they haven't received the email. I guess it was placed in the spam folder due to its numerous attachments...:uhoh3:
