New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

im sorry, im just a little bit confused on what you have written... pardon me for that... anyway my reply in general is as follow:

TO EVERYBODY /NEWBIE :

If you send documents using postal service (phil. or US or whatever), use the GPO or PO Box address of the receiver...

If you send documents using private courier (fedex, dhl), use the office address of the receiver, do not use the GPO or PO BOX..

It is hard to track mails using the postal service, unless you have it "registered", meaning the receiver is required

to sign "received" and then that receipt is sent back to you..

Thanks.

I checked the status of the package again, and FedEx delivered it to AHPRA. I guess they figured out where to send it with the GPO address. Or maybe they called AHPRA. The US Post has the same service as FedEx and I hope they'll figure out where to send it if they can't send it to a GPO address.

I actually would want to take BP but i'm afraid can't because I still lack years of experience which I believe is a prerequisite for enrollment. I only have 3months experience (volunteer nurse) in a hospital here in the Philippines. So i think that leaves me no choice but to take E.N first before R.N

Why do you have to spend unnecessarily to get registered as a nurse in Au? Cost of fee is too much. You either have the option to gain more experience (volunteer work is accepted by AHPRA .. actually I just had four months volunteer experience when I applied and was granted eligibility for BP. I'm also a second courser) then apply to AHPRA to take BP. Or if you really really want to study in Au, try inquiring at the University of Queensland. If you are a qualified nurse overseas and meet IELTS requirements, you can take the one year study and be registered with AHPRA after successfully finishing the course. But again, you'll need thousands of dollars not just for the fee, accommodation and fare but also for DIAC show money. From experience, I don't think working part time could sufficiently pay for a UNI tuition fee and rent.

Does your transcipt or course description cover the requirements IE: state how many theory hours you have done and clinical you must have done 800 for each, your school must send this statement and also no pharmcology subject is on your tor or course description....must have pharmacology as well, if you have done a pharmacology subject get a certified copy from your school also. So AHPRa want a certified copy showing theory hours, clinical hours and description of a pharmacological subject and send it into them soon or they might say its an abandoned application.

thanks ive already went to univ and ask for this... im just waiting then i ill send it to them soon..

about phramacology they will give me a cerification the the "pharmacology subject" was integrated througout Ncm.

thanks to ceridwyn and markgian...

markgian i hope i will get my eligibility soon in WA coz my bestfriend got her eligibility without asking anu documents like mine,we just passed same documents... same date... she so pretty lucky less than a month only...in WA very quick...

hope me and u will get the eligibilty soon...

My parents paid over 42,000 Australian dollars for me to get my initial nursing degree, this included accommodation, food, uni fees which cost around 18,000 AU dollars, transport, costs to get to clinicals at hospitals, many far from home, all over the 3 years in Australia, and this as a domestic student.

I had a part time job that managed to pay for petrol and some food.. I thank them everyday as they are only 'working class' people. Dad worked extra shift and lots of overtime to pay for it all. RIP No university degrees.

read the replies of Mhai and Ceridwyn..

to sum up:

1) are you a PR or not? you need a valid visa to work as EN or RN in Oz.. You CANNOT be granted a work visa as an EN.. as what Ceridwyn explained..

2) if you can afford to study EN and later on RN in the Oz which will costs hundreds of thousands perhaps a million of pesos, then (as what Mhai said) better used that money by being a volunteer nurse in the phils (as your monthly allowance) and after your duty every week as volunteer nurse, use the money to enjoy life at the bars there, i missed our gimik bars there..

cheers mate!

thanks guys, really.:D

Truth is, I have already paid an assessment fee by an agency, considering that I still lacked the number of years of experience, they advised me to enroll for E.N first (in which the course is good for 1.5years) and told me that I would be eligible to work part-time but not as a nurse, and that I would also be able to apply for P.R.

could it be possible? I actually have a friend in Melbourne (same agency still) who is studying E.N and i waiting for a response from a letter he wrote for AHPRA saying he would want to pursue the BSN course, and if they permit, he would quit E.N and push thru with BSN to become an RN.

On the other hand, i'm thinking to work as a volunteer nurse in the meantime, as my E.N course would commence in July 2012.

Am i making the right decision? :uhoh3: my family has been supportive of me, I hope I won't fail them this time.

really? i actually have 5months experience (volunteer). what school are you in? I guess there's no turning back for me now since I have paid the assessment fee already, but they will be lodging my application in december on whatever school I want to enroll. I really want to study for BSN degree. can you tell me if there are other options? :(

Check this site and look at Part B section (for international students with nursing qualification overseas)

http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program_list.html?acad_prog=2241

You can email them for inquiries and more details, click on home page to navigate for more info. Well, good luck to your future plans. But bear in mind that IELTS for university studies is similar to what AHPRA requires. Some schools would accept 6.5 IELTS but then again you have to comply with AHPRA if you want to get registered.

By the way.. anybody knows how true that AHPRA could forego of IELTS requirements if an applicant shows proof that previous secondary and tertiary studyies had been undertaken in English (except Filipino subjects of course)?

thank you so much arreyn! appreciate it! I actually have looked into AHPRA's website but I'm not sure if i'm getting on the right page, but still, I will try to go over the details. My agency told me that i will be given the student visa and that i will be eligible to work part time. I hope that will support me with my fees as well.

So in other words, I cannot apply for P.R if i am just an E.N? and, I will need to study BSN degree for 3 years still eventhough I have completed E.N course in Oz already?

what if i'll take the AGED CARE course first for 6months then i'll enroll for BSN? is that a much wiser choice? than to study for 1.5yrs as EN , because eventually i will have to study to become an RN still. right? :uhoh3: i am sooooo confused.

Try contacting the University of Queensland and have your documents assessed. I know lots of Filipino nurses who took the one year conversion program and got registered.

If you want to be an EN in Au, you will have to finish the Diploma of Nursing at TAFE. To be an RN, you have to take further study at a university. But since you finished diploma of nursing, they will credit previous courses/subjects and it may only take you a year to finish bachelor of nursing.

so you got three options in life dear:

1. take the one year bridging course at UQ and get registered as RN straight away after successful completion

2. Study 2 years diploma of nursing, then additional year for RN

3. apply to ahpra and take BP

Yes, you cannot apply for PR as an EN because its not in the DIAC/immigration skills occupation list.

regarding aged care.. if you finish the first semester in Diploma of nursing, you can work as an assistant in Nursing (AIN)/personal carer as it is equivalent to cert III in aged care.

regarding part time work, you can only work maximum 20 hours if you are on a student visa.

waaa thank you sooo much arreyn!! :D finally, I have something to clear my mind. but will UQ consider my experience knowing it's only good for 5months?

i guess i have option number 2 since I got involved with my agency already, but it'll take a lot of money! *crossed fingers and toes* HAHAHAHA
