New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

hi evryone! I already have my eligibility letter for bp..still, undecided to continue...need your help or motivation to pursue career in aus....how many percentage would be the chance of getting work/sponorship after the bp? i kniow everyone woiuld be a great help.especially, those who experienced this same dillema before. thank you in advance.

Lucky you, you have already in your hands the eligibility letter. Is it just getting work that's bothering you?

Maybe after registration, you can opt to settle working in aged care facilities there rather than think of working in a big hospital first.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go with the BP and work my way out when I'm there already. We will never know when they'll change their policies regarding nurses wanting to work there. Cheers!

thanks i just hope that they will confirm the january intake asap.

thank you for this information.... i was kinda confused when i recieved my approval letter(Enrolled Nurse approval) from ahpra on which visa to apply for.. just wanted to know if student visa is much better than 456 visa? how many mos. they can give u in student visa for doing the bridging course? In DIAC, bridging course would fall under vocational and training (VET).

thanks again!!!

Hope you know that no employer has DIAC right to sponsor a visa for an Enrolled nurse they are not on the SOL list so therefore cannot be sponsored. That goes for personal care assistants as well. Not on list cannot be sponsored.

So to get the sponsored visa is not an option, if an Enrolled nurse.

hi there! now i am having anxiety attack after reading this hehehe.... actually i just reciv my approval letter this week, I don't know whats really the difference between the Registered nurse Div. 1 and EN div 2, i applied in Ahpra victoria last october and it took me 9 mos to reciv this approval letter. In the approval letter it says Enrolled nurse, but theyre asking me to complete the brdiging course within 1 yr to be able to have my registration as a nurse, and if EN's are not in the SOL list, then does than mean i wont have a chance to be an RN in Aus? Pls. enlighten me on this one im really confuse now.. My sister is in sydney and we are just waiting for Ahpra approval and we are starting to fnd school for BP course.. this is my letter from them for reference... again so many THANKS!!!

Re: Application for registration as an Enrolled Nurse

In order to progress your application for registration as a nurse it is necessary for you to successfully complete a Board approved bridging course for registration of overseas qualified nurse within twelve (12) months of the date of issue of this letter. Extensions beyond this date will not be granted.

When AHPRA receives evidence of your successful completion of Board approved bridging course, we will progress your application for registration if you have met all the registration standards including proof of identity, criminal history check and current English Language requirements.

From my understanding Enrolled nurse applicants still are required to attend bridging courses as well, after all these courses are to familiarize overseas nurses to the Australian health system, drugs, procedures, culture differences, so Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse needs to orientate here.

Enrolled nurses gives drugs, organise IV's gives injections, so not alot of difference, but the pay is lower than a first year RN.

You cannot work as an Enrolled nurse until you are actually registered with AHPRA as ann Enrolled nurse and have a visa that allows you to work....this would be difficult to get as Enrolled Nurse.

Enrolled nurses do educate mainly through TAFE collleges not university. To become RN you would have to go to Uni for a 1-2 years in a Bachelor of Nursing degree, you would have to be assessed. They get a Diploma of Nursing.

Did you apply to be an Enrolled Nurse? You cannot be sponsored as an Enrolled Nurse to stay and work in Australia, you would have to go to university and do a Degree to be a Registered Nurse. Unless you have applied for assessment as an EN and not RN or they have assessed your nurse education as diploma level.

It does clearly state application as an Enrolled Nurse on your letter.....I would check with AHPRA and check, before any money is past.

You can still make an appeal about their decision if you think you are qualified to be a registered nurse. Make an appeal letter that states that your qualification in your home country is a registered nurse. Present evidence like PRC license, Board Certificate, TOR and RLE and most especially work experience. However, in your case I believe they have demoted you to an EN due to your college education. Maybe you did not thoroughly justify your nursing education enough, I believe you need to send a proof that your BSN degree is of the same level as RN course in Australia by presenting a comprehensive course description or your whole nursing curriculum if you want to. Philippines nursing curriculum is integrated (NCM) unlike in Australia that it is well specified. I believe its the same but different approach.

are you a second courser? how long did you study Nursing?

I am so dumb!!! I applied for EN assessment grrrr:sniff:.... I actually did passed all my requirements, i am a second courser and it was written in my TOR, my work experience in saudi, and my work experience here, also the letter from PRC and the School documents... i took nursing for 3 yrs only, i dont have to take some units again becoz of my first course (pt). i already wrote to my registration officer, i hope she can give me options on how that approval can be RN assessment... I shouldn't have believed that employee in AHPRA NSW, before i lodge my assessment in AHPRA victoria, I called Ahpra NSW, i asked them about the assessment and that officer told me to do my assessment as EN in AHPRA victoria. that's why i have my assessment in VIC instead of NSW.

I am so dissapointed wahhhhhh,,,,, well what to do that's my lesson for being so dumb!!! my problem is , my IELTS will expire soon, and i dont want to do it again, i was lucky enough to get the band score in one sitting and i dont know if i can do that again huhuhuhu.... i have read its getting harder and harder now!!!!

Wish me luck!! thank you for all ur advice !!!!

ETEA - November 7 2011 ( deadline of submission of application is 9 Sept 2011)
