New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hi!

can u please share with me ur timeline in sending ur docs to nsw until u received ur letter?

i´m desperate for their reply and i´m just wondering how long will it take until they contactme and i finally receive my letter:uhoh3:

last february, i requested ahpra victoria to transfer my application to ahpra nsw. by april, i called up ahpra nsw to follow up, and got to talk with the professional officer assigned on my application. by first week of may, i received a feedback from the officer telling me that the assessment on my application has been completed but i have to wait until the board meeting last june 2 for my application to be considered. one week after the board meeting i called the officer to follow up again and she told me that the board has considered my application and that the referral letters for the school were sent to my address last june 10. i waited one month for the letters to arrive :-)

i am planning to finish my BP this year hopefully at CON.

did the lady told you their quota for another september batch to push through?

by the way, did you send them the same CV that you sent to AHPRA? how long was your letter of intent?

thanks.

the lady just told me to wait for her feedback if i am going to make it on September. She said that they will be having a meeting. I guess they will still decide if they will open another batch for September. Are you also on the waiting list? Did you receive any feedback from them?

I didn't send any CV to them. I just sent them the required documents thru email.

The agency is still wrong, you still need an IELTS of at least 6.5 no matter what education instituton you choose and you need it for the student visa to study there, so they are still telling porkees. They are wrong.

sweet_toothRN, how many days did you wait for you to receive the go signal from CON? I'm on the waiting list, and I really really want to be able to take BP this September. Does anyone have the same situation like mine?

Again, as I've posted a while ago...

I contacted CON last July 13, a day after I received my eligibility letter from AHPRA Victoria by email. Scanned and sent my application form and other requirements (via email too) last July 14. My aunt in Sydney paid the fee on July 18. Friday, July 22 I received thru email the letter that I'm supposed to show the embassy. Tomorrow I'll be lodging my visa application.

So roughly a week. But within that week, I think I made at least half a dozen calls to the person in charge. I just wanted to make sure that I'll be given a slot for the September intake. Even my aunt in Sydney kept on calling CON. :D

They did not require any CV, nor were they required to 'sight' my IELTS. In one of my numerous phonecalls I asked them about IELTS because my IELTS expired a month ago. But she said that AHPRA will most probably require a valid IELTS before they grant the registration after the BP so might as well retake it now. Not to mention that DIAC will surely require a valid IELTS when we apply for a working visa. So yeah, I'll be retaking it next month :uhoh3:

guys.... im scheduled to have an interview with IHNA tomorrow... can anyone give me some tips about the interview... would greatly appreciate it....

The interviewer will just ask you about your current work experience in the ward. Actually, she would just really want to find out if you can communicate with her on the phone and both of you understand each other. At least that's what my interviewer told me her real purpose was during my own interview. Just relax and listen attentively to what she says so you can respond accordingly. ;)

DIAC is the Australian agency that is in-charge of VISA.. Their website is www.immi.gov.au .. Below are just an overview, better consult a professional on visa matters, or read/research about visa particularly the DIAC's website..

For the 2-3 mos. BP, you can apply for the 456 VISA which is cheaper and faster to process (less than 1 week from date of application).. As a 456 visa holder, you are NOT allowed to work part-time or full time.. When applying for this visa, better request/apply for a "multiple entry", it is very advantageous if you are approved of such.

You may also apply for Student Visa, which is a bit expensive and longer to process (1-3 mos.).. And YES, you are allowed to work part-time (i'm not sure but i think you can work part-time for 20-24 hours a week).. When applying for this visa, better request/apply for "allowed to apply for extension"; otherwise you are not allowed to do so and MUST go back home and re-apply/process your visa in your homeland..

REMEMBER.. Please check the EXPIRY of your VISA.. At any given time, you are NOT allowed to stay/study/work/live in Australia if your visa has expired..

After you finish/pass the BP, your license will be processed by AHPRA.. Once you are officially registered as RN, then you can now start hunting/applying for job.. (again you're visa must have not yet expired).. If you're visa is expiring and you haven't found a job yet, you may apply for extension of your visa(it's DIAC's decision whether to grant you or not), or you may choose to go back your homeland instead..

If you find an employer who is willing to "sponsor" you for a working visa (457 visa), then you with your employer will apply/process this 457 visa which will allow you to work in Australia.. Duration of your 457 visa will depend on the length of your job contract with your employer (maximum is 4 years)..

NOW WHILE PROCESSING this 457 visa and your existing visa is expiring, then you can apply for a "bridging visa" which will allow you to stay in Australia while waiting for the release/approval of your 457 visa that you have earlier applied for.. Once you receive your 457 visa, then you can start working legally..

Again, there are specific rules and obligations that you should do or not do as a visa holder, so better read the DIAC website, it is enumerated in there..

thank you for this information.... i was kinda confused when i recieved my approval letter(Enrolled Nurse approval) from ahpra on which visa to apply for.. just wanted to know if student visa is much better than 456 visa? how many mos. they can give u in student visa for doing the bridging course? In DIAC, bridging course would fall under vocational and training (VET).

thanks again!!!

same here, i also see that one in WA for 4k AUD, cheapest i think compared to other schools offering BP. ill try to find some more BP schools that offers low fees, hope we could get one... its really hard, its very expensive.. wheew

goodluck to us all!!!

by the way joiemike... What did they tell you after?? Did you get in? I heard they are full for the year... Is this true??

I was approved to get in even before I got my AHPRA letter. But due to the delay of the letter's release, they gave my slot to somebody else. Yeah, they are full for the year.

It took me almost a year to get my eligibility letter. I sent first my application to AHPRA Victoria, and they kept on telling me that an assessment officer hasn't been assigned yet on my case. That's what they kept on telling me every time I called them up to follow up. Then last April, I requested for them to transfer my application to AHPRA NSW and they did. I called AHPRA NSW to follow up and got to talk to the Professional Officer assigned on my application. Just less than a week, I received an email from my Professional Officer informing me that the assessment to my application has been complete, and that I have to wait until the Board meeting last June 2 for my application to be considered. One week after the Board meeting, I called the officer again to follow up, then she told me that the referral letters were sent to my address last June 10. I waited one month for the letters to arrive.

How did u manage to transfer ur docs?Did u ring them? Did u send an email or a a formal letter?

I´m definitely considering to transfer my docs to WA, however I´m afraid that they might get lost in the way....
