New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

good morning everyone...

guys please help me, I dont have a record of my "baby" immunizations (&baby book) because the hospital where I was immunized doesn't keep these records for more than 7 years... I asked Hi-Precision Diagnostics if they have an antigen titer to check my immunization status but unfortunately they only have hepa titer... guys, I dont know what to do anymore.. what can you suggest? any response will be greatly appreciated... thank you so much :)

first of all, have you computed how much it will cost you to implement your plan of checking your titers, status????

me, i do not have a "baby book" too, because i was born at the time of Magellan...

i just got "new" immunization shots (based on the list they/Oz require) and thereby got a new reliable record of my status, which by the way is what most(or 99%) of the forumers here have done..

if MRT is faster and cheaper than a bus ride, then i will choose MRT.. if i have money, well, i choose to ride a taxi..

Got the same email from AHPRA just today, and still the waiting continues, but keeping the faith in prayer and going for it.:)

the darker the night, the nearer the dawn.. morning will come soon..

if you're still having a hard time, maybe i can help you. my twin sisters are in cebu passing time (new cebu graduates;)), so i believe i can try helping you on that if everything else fails. :)

thank you so much for the offer! I haven't submitted my requirements to AHPRA yet, but I will keep this in mind. Are your sisters new nurses as well? :) i might have taken the board exams together with them last july!

if i am in your case, 100% i will re-take IELTS asap.. then if i get below 7, then i will re-take-take, while im in the phils...

at the date of migration application, your IELTS should be less than 2 years old..

you will not have problems as long as you get scores of 7... BUT, here's one thing i am not sure of if there is a complication or none:

what if you got below 7 score after re-take, and you are processing your 457 visa (because you are hired already), will DIAC approve your visa as a RN in Oz considering that your latest IELTS score is below 7???? this i could not answer you.. nonetheless, this will not be a problem if you get 7 scores.. so i hope you got what im trying to warn you because i do not know the answer to this situation.. all i know is that always make sure you get 7 scores to avoid complications..

how much does it cost to take the IELTS in Australia? (exams only, not the review) Thanks!

Speaking of the PNA, there was recently a controversy in Cebu regarding the payment of membership fees and holding of the oathtaking of new board passers. Cebu Chapter and the Regional Chapter at odds over who will collect the dues and oathtaking fees. And all they give us is not even a decent plastic ID but the card board type only. They were fighting over the money collected. These PNA people have nothing to show for all the fees they collect. Me and my batch mate decided not to pay the fees nor attend the oathtaking a few years back because we thought PNA is just a money making scheme. True enough, they never lifted a finger against hospitals making each "volunteer" nurse pay for "volunteering". They never even help those nurses displaced from the violence in the Middle East. No wonder most of the Filipino nurses decided to stay put in Libya rather than go home. Those who went home were only given by OWWA P10,000 unemployment benefits.

my gosh that is terrible! can we do anything to change this? like make an appeal or something just do be heard? nurses definitely deserve more than this! we save lives for crying out loud.

Anyone here applied for a student visa in TAFE NSW for July intake?:confused:

Thanks!

hey everyone! how are all of you doing? just dropping to say hi and to thank everyone who helped me when I was still applying for BP last year. Now, I am a licensed Aussie nurse and on my way to working as an ER nurse in a bayside hospital in Victoria. To everyone planning to take the BP in Aussie, best of luck. With perseverance, skills and determination, I know you will all do great.

From what I learned it's about $300 ++. The cost is not actually the point. It's how they might grade you. The examiners might not give you a high score especially in speaking considering their ozzie accent and our Filipino accent. ;)

Hi drednag,

Congratulations on your new job. I'm so happy for you reaching your ozzie dream. My niece also did her BP late last year and was hired by a nsg home immediately after receiving her license. She had no previous work experience at all in the Phils. I really like where you are working now. I'm currently an ER nurse in one of the private hospitals in our city. Have been working here for more than a year already.

How are the job prospects of male ER nurses from the Phils with more than a year's experience now? I still want to work in the ER after my BP. Hoping to start my BP this May or June. I would probably prefer regional areas of Victoria. I'm planning to apply for Regional sponsorship once I gain enough ozzie work experience.

hey drednag! can you give us a timeline of your progress to being a licensed nurse in Aus, up to being hired as an ER nurse? If possible, can you start from the time you submitted your requirements to AHPRA?

this information would be helpful to us hopefuls, and would also give us some light =)

thanks!
