New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hello guys! i've been lurking here for so long. i just want to share the news that i already got my approval letter from ahpra victoria after submitting all the needed documents last november. i am quite confused on what to do next, i have not started applying for any school. can you guys help me on the next process? do i need to look for a school first before applying for a visa and i want to know your views whether i should do this by my own or tie up myself with an agency? i've been to one agency in q.c. asking me to prepare at least 23,500 dollars for the whole process, school...housing fees..etc, they said that they will loan me the 10,000dollars for the tuition and i will pay them w/out interest after i got a job...i'll be grateful to whoever will answer my queries:)

Personally, I'm scared to tie up with agencies unless its a big and well-known one (with good track record). If you can come up with the 23,500 dollars then what for would you still need them? For a student visa, you'd need atleast AUD18k for one year so that's like 1k+ a month for living expenses +10k tuition +medicals, visa and fare...the total is not even 20k. Should you decide to go for NSW the BP is only 2 months. So you can see where the rest of your money will go :D Actually, its really easy to do it on your own :) But!!! its still your choice of course :)

By the way, go over the thread and you'd see that a lot were successful doing it on their own :) Goodluck!

Well, first you have to decide which State you want to do your BP, then find a BP provider in that State (go to AHPRA website for a list of accredited BP providers). Go to their website and Apply for Enrollment by filling up their application form (some would allow online application and some paper application). Submit Application Form along with requirements asked. Pay tuition Fee. Wait for Acceptance Letter. Apply for your Visa (your visa will most likely get approved with the acceptance letter from the school attached). Do your medicals (this can also be done prior to application of Visa). Accomplish immunisations required. Buy your fare ticket. Fly to Oz :)

APHRA offices are busy with the current national renewal of nurses and midwives so they are the priority of course.Try calling them but don't expect them to give you an update via email from time to time . Best thing to do is wait and pray. BTW,I called APHRA NT office today to confirm if they forwarded my application to NSW and they did send it a month ago . Called NSW office also and I was informed that my application is with them and my application is being assessed as of the moment, they will just inform if I need to provide any further documents.

I've been waiting for more than 5 months now but is okay as long as I receive a positive assessment from them. :):):)

Good luck to all of us.

You can submit it to any offices. Some forum members here had already received their eligibility letters from APHRA VIC and NSW offices. It's a personal choice knowing that few are submitting applications to other APHRA offices and most overseas applicants submit their applications to VIC and NSW I decided to submit it to NT office hoping that I'll not wait too long but I was wrong :D

Sorry Cio I posted those smilies before your post came up.....yep, not a safe country even in country areas at all, many people (meaning all emigrants or family from emigrants, everyone is this unless aboriginal) do not practise the old values...it is so free here that people think it is their right to do whatever to someone else and someone else's property, the Aboriginal community also has difficulties with our society.

hope your car is not too costly...and gets fixed soon. Hope you are driving on the correct side of the road.

Each country has problems Terday, this place is not a dream by any means, (compared to what) just pays nurses more than in the Phillipines and does not have the population, and did have plenty nursing jobs, our freedom allows every type of religon, and culture and values to function here. So this freedom backfires more often than not on those who do respect others rights, thats the biggest problem here. Our politics has corruption all the time, they get caught, but then in a few months we will here of some other government corruption. NSW gov. is an example at this time.

We do not have human rights legislation, so our unions keep the b.....honest, so thats why we have good working conditions. So I would hope that all overseas nurses that do find work, join the union.

'its not what you know...it is who you know' another well known Australian saying.

got ur point about the "union"... just curious about your comment of the absence of human rights legislations, that's kinda weird isn't it... well, nway.. the flashlight/headlight of my push-bike was stolen this morning:crying2:.. unbelievable!! this makes me understand why some people hate certain group of people who do nothing but criminal acts, ya know what i mean.. anyway.. :o

I'm confused.

1. My agency said that as of a few days ago, there were new requirements. I had to submit a course description and syllabus. Is this really required? I thought they only required the TOR and RLE. I haven't submitted my application yet.

2. I have 1 year and 4 months paid experience in a hospital but they won't give out employment certificates or sign the CV thing since I didn't reach 2 years (which is the minimum). I didn't list this under work experience. I just placed it under the GAPS. Is this right? That's what the agency told me to do.

Thanks!

let me guess... your hospital is St.Luke's?? just a wild guess..

im disgusted with such hospitals... in my legal opinion, that is an unfair labor practice.. for the purpose of discussion, you can complain that one with DOLE, which by the way is a useless corrupt government agency... and this what really frustrates me more, that useless PNA which knows nothing but just to hold that so-called "annual conference" of nurses.. jiz!! we pay membership to PNA, and all they know is just to hold such social activities of conferences and that nursing week celebration.. whaat! can PNA just do something to protect the Phil. nurses!!! oh boy!! if only we are allowed to swear here...
