New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Networking in the Philippines goes like this: You need a job so you approach a person with connection to the inside. You give your resume and you get the job regardless if there's a vacancy or none and regardless if you're qualified or not.

Networking in aus: You need a job so you approach a person with connection to the inside. You give your resume and if there's no vacancy, you'll need to look somewhere else. If there is, you get invited for an interview and will be assessed with regards to your qualifications and skills matching the selection criteria. If successful you get the job.

Networking is important to know if there's a vacancy. You getting the job will not depend on the person you know from the inside.

Quality of life in aus is one of the best in the world. How about putting the cart back to its original position rather than putting it ahead of the horse. Finish your bp/conversion first and the job will worry for itself.

People who have given up on their aussie dreams have no idea what they've just lost.

how are you going mate... totally agree with what you have said above, really true... except just for one small

personal thing, just my thing, that is: it is safer for me to park my car in my home city of Davao than here..

just bought a car yesterday, then this morning, driver's window was smashed.. and these things normally happen often here (as it happens to others here), but not in my home city.. anyone can argue against my point, but that's just it..

Sorry Cio I posted those smilies before your post came up.....yep, not a safe country even in country areas at all, many people (meaning all emigrants or family from emigrants, everyone is this unless aboriginal) do not practise the old values...it is so free here that people think it is their right to do whatever to someone else and someone else's property, the Aboriginal community also has difficulties with our society.

hope your car is not too costly...and gets fixed soon. Hope you are driving on the correct side of the road.

Each country has problems Terday, this place is not a dream by any means, (compared to what) just pays nurses more than in the Phillipines and does not have the population, and did have plenty nursing jobs, our freedom allows every type of religon, and culture and values to function here. So this freedom backfires more often than not on those who do respect others rights, thats the biggest problem here. Our politics has corruption all the time, they get caught, but then in a few months we will here of some other government corruption. NSW gov. is an example at this time.

We do not have human rights legislation, so our unions keep the b.....honest, so thats why we have good working conditions. So I would hope that all overseas nurses that do find work, join the union.

'its not what you know...it is who you know' another well known Australian saying.

1) depends on the school you enrolled in, but usually around 3 months... some even have 4-6 months BP..

2) 99% the lenght of BP does not really affect r/t your experience or none.. it is normally fixed.. but prior AHPRA, the College of Nursing in NSW has an option for BP students to try to take an "assessment" in the middle of your BP whereby if you passed then you are "accelerated", in effect will cut off your BP class period.. in most BP schools per policy, if you fail in their tests/assessment then you will do extension duties, thus lenghtening your

BP from 3 mos. to perhaps 2 more weeks..

3) i think other thread members could help you more on this question.. i will be supporting/funding my sister's

BP later on... i am preparing a budget of @ P600,000... the tuition fee alone costs you $8t - $12t..

hope other members can contribute answers to your questions..

How about your sister?Does she have a paid work experience?Or she'll just go there without exp. ?hope u'll answer. :)

I'm so sorry to hear that cioman. Do you any idea who's responsible for it? Do you think it was a race thing? or do those things happen even to Australians?

I am so happy everyone. I just received my eligibility letter from ahpra today :) Who is in Victoria right now and will be doing their BP in Werribee Mercy Hospital? :)

Hi, I'm also waiting for my eligibility letter from ahpra. It's been 5 months already. How long before yours came? Thanks

You just wait. The timeline of my application is this :

Sent my application Dec. 6, 2010

Sent my PRC doc Dec. 7, 2010

Requested for IDP TRF Dec 7, 2010

Received email confirmation from ahpra that they have my docs Jan 13, 2011

My credit card statement reflected the posting of the application fee Mar 9, 2011

Until now, the waiting continues............:uhoh3:

So true..

Had my application sent in October. I had to send them emails to follow-up on my application. They finally replied February 28 to let me know that they have received my application on October 21st but has not yet been assessed. March 16 - they said that the preliminary assessment has been undertaken and that the application will progress to the next stage which will occur within the next 8 weeks. I was hoping to get in the May intake but looks like I'm running out of time.. :crying2:

Hi isingrn.

By April 6, it will be 4 months to the day since I sent my application. I sent in to Victoria. Last week, got an email from them that they have have initially assessed my proof of identity, IELTS, and payment. They reminded me to send my PRC Cert of Good Standing if I still haven't done so. I called them up to confirm if they have, indeed, received the PRC doc. I told them that it was simultaneously sent together with all the other docs. They insisted that they haven't received it. So, I ran back to PRC to request for another copy. Will be able to send it this Wednesday. I hope they will get it this time. They still have to assess my TOR and course syllabus.

How about your case? Are we in the same boat? Really anxious, since I want to catch the May 9 intake of the school that has pre-approved my application for BP enrollment. If not, the next intake will be June 20.

Yes, i think we're on the same exact stage. I think I have to call them up too to confirm receipt of my PRC doc. What school are you aiming to enroll? I was hoping to get to La Trobe University in Bendigo.

Hi isingrn!

So, you didn't get an e-mail stating they've received your documents within the month you sent it? It took them roughly 5 months before they informed you that they have received your application?

I sent my application last February and I've been waiting for their e-mail to confirm that they received my documents. Until now, I have yet to receive an e-mail. So I called them to confirm and they told me that they have received my documents. I still feel a little anxious. How did they inform you about the progress of your application? Through postal mail or email?

Thanks and good luck to all of us!

O yes, I only heard news from them after 5 months. I've been calling them but their line was always busy. They sent me an email to inform me of the progress of my application. RN friends there in Oz told me AHPRA has been busy since December because they only renew registrations every December and May of the year. That's probably why it took them sooooooooo long to process my application.
