Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
i got my visa today after almost a month (had problems with the medical), it's single entry though which makes me a bit sad but still im very thankful. thank you to everyone who have helped me in one way or another. i sooo love this thread :)btw, who is planning to attend vchn's april 18 intake (perth) or may 9 intake (melbourne), im looking for flatmates :)
unadunad, i also graduated from a nursing college and i was given an eligibility. i would like to think that it's the quality of education that matters and not whether it's a college or university. good luck and keep the faith :)
Congratulations liaa :yeah:
Just wondering, when you applied for the 456 did you tick the box where you were asked if you plan to travel to Australia again? Because I ticked that and the reason I gave was 'to process my nursing registration in AHPRA'... I think that is important for you to be able to get a multiple entry.
Anyway, I'm still happy for you, the important thing is getting there and starting to make your dream come true! goodluck! :)
Hi cioman. Where can you find the new rules for skilled migration to take effect July 2011? Tried looking it up at DIAC and can't seem to find it.
I read it somewhere in the DIAC website, but here is another link that can give you information about it:
http://blog.visabureau.com/post/new-australian-visa-points-test-to-be-introduced-on-1-july-2011.aspx
I'll still try to search it at the DIAC website and post it here once I find it :)
Found it:

Hope this helps :)
1) if using DHL - send to AHPRA 'office address'2) if using Phil.Post - send to AHPRA 'PO Box address'
dont ask why.. Nike.. just do it... cheers!
Hi Cioman!
I've been reading your posts but the thread is so full already that I wasn't able to read all of them. I think your posts are very informative. And thank you so much for that. I just want to ask some questions:
1. How many months usually does it take to finish the Bridging Program?
2. Will the length of the bridging program be influenced depending on whether you have experience or zero experience?
3. How much will be the estimated costs of everything (processing, tuition fee, money in the bank, airfare)? just the estimated. :)
I really hope you'd answer my questions. I'm trying to read as much as I can. But it's too many. You've been such a help. God Bless. Thanks!

I read it already thanks to the link. I don't think it will greatly affect skilled professionals like us.

Thanks for this link. Wow, this really changes things for many of us. As what is listed there, it gives premium to more work experience ( I only have 18 months experience as ER nurse). Your IELTS score would really matter now. So also with your age!!!
Everywhere you go, no matter what profession or trade you are, everyone is asking for experience....the more experience in the field that the employer is looking for the more chance of the job.
Australia may not be as hard hit as some countries,....but they are not making new positions and taking on people that can hit the floor running...many jobs for those that have experience of some years around and management experience. I see a few health services have been recruiting in the UK, but for nurses with experience.
Sorry for another post like this but it seems to be more and more important. A few years ago they would say in interviews that if you declared you did not have much experience in blah blah blah, they would reply with 'oh well' we can orientate you into that, now you will not even get a smile from them and are lucky to get an interview.
Though there is jobs now again in acute....you need to be at the right time and place and network, network, network
Networking in the Philippines goes like this: You need a job so you approach a person with connection to the inside. You give your resume and you get the job regardless if there's a vacancy or none and regardless if you're qualified or not.
Networking in aus: You need a job so you approach a person with connection to the inside. You give your resume and if there's no vacancy, you'll need to look somewhere else. If there is, you get invited for an interview and will be assessed with regards to your qualifications and skills matching the selection criteria. If successful you get the job.
Networking is important to know if there's a vacancy. You getting the job will not depend on the person you know from the inside.
Quality of life in aus is one of the best in the world. How about putting the cart back to its original position rather than putting it ahead of the horse. Finish your bp/conversion first and the job will worry for itself.
People who have given up on their aussie dreams have no idea what they've just lost.

the 2 major factors:
1) paid experience - - - - should be 3 years in Philippines (other countries) if you want to earn points..
2) age ---- the older you are, then you are old..

1) depends on the school you enrolled in, but usually around 3 months... some even have 4-6 months BP..
2) 99% the lenght of BP does not really affect r/t your experience or none.. it is normally fixed.. but prior AHPRA, the College of Nursing in NSW has an option for BP students to try to take an "assessment" in the middle of your BP whereby if you passed then you are "accelerated", in effect will cut off your BP class period.. in most BP schools per policy, if you fail in their tests/assessment then you will do extension duties, thus lenghtening your
BP from 3 mos. to perhaps 2 more weeks..
3) i think other thread members could help you more on this question.. i will be supporting/funding my sister's
BP later on... i am preparing a budget of @ P600,000... the tuition fee alone costs you $8t - $12t..
hope other members can contribute answers to your questions..
