New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Anyone here who just recently received their eligibility letter from APHRA and graduated from a college nursing school ? :)

I've been really anxious this past weeks regarding my application coz I graduated from a College institution, I have no idea if it it would affect my application. I'm just worried that they might again assess my Bachelor's degree comparable only to an Australian Enrolled Nurse diploma just because I did not graduated from a University.

I also graduated from a college nursing school and I am really worried that they might downgrade my application to enrolled nurse. I called ahpra last friday and asked for updates or any problems, they just said that they are still assessing my application and that they will contact me soon. I am on my fourth month of waiting and it is making me anxious, all that I can do now is to pray.

By the way, you are from baguio right? I am a pcc graduate, how about you?

Faith can move mountains.

Good luck to us!

i got my visa today after almost a month (had problems with the medical), it's single entry though which makes me a bit sad but still im very thankful. thank you to everyone who have helped me in one way or another. i sooo love this thread :)

btw, who is planning to attend vchn's april 18 intake (perth) or may 9 intake (melbourne), im looking for flatmates :)

unadunad, i also graduated from a nursing college and i was given an eligibility. i would like to think that it's the quality of education that matters and not whether it's a college or university. good luck and keep the faith :)

I graduated from College of Nursing and not from a Uni,prior to AHPRA I submitted my documents to QNC for their CAP program at that time. They assessed my documents and told me I can take the CAP once I passed the IELTS. But due to some reason I didnt push thru my plan to take the CAP.Also, I got a decision letter from NZNC but to my dismay until now all school are fully booked. My EILTS will expire soon thats why I am trying my luck to apply for OZ.So it shows, we meet their educational standards.

I did not mean it has to be named a university but its teaching must be of a high standard as I explained u would have an idea of what a good school would be... Is ranked as a place of higher learning in your country and therefore produces high pass rates and this would show good quality teaching...if your school is not thought of as a good nursing school other countries are not going to either. Most nurses that have applied in the past have been assessed favorably I do not see massive rejections now either, though it will be not be so rare now for someone to be assessed unfavourably.

I'll try huh but maybe not too soon because I am shy to use my sis-inlaw's internet unless its for studies hehe...but when I got the chance to visit the thread i'll do my best to help :)

Timeline (i think i posted wayback, mine is a different case though 'coz i got caught up in the transition):

April 2010 - filed application in NSW State

July 2010 - got caught in the transition

* Had to do follow up calls in between

* Getting anxious and disappointed and decided a backup plan so filed a Subclass 176 Skilled Migration on Sept. 2010 with spouse (accountant) as principal applicant

October 2010 - Finally heard from AHPRA asking me to submit new form and CV

November 12, 2010 - Sent my docs via DHL

*case officer went on leave

*sent about 2 emails, no reply from them

January 21, 2011 - Finally got my eligibility dated January 4, 2011

Feb. 2011 - Contacted College of Nursing to inform I'm interested in the BP

Mar. 2, 2011 - Had my medicals in Cebu (called them up after a week and was informed my medicals were already sent to DIAC)

Mar. 17, 2011 - Filed my 456 Visa in Makati

Mar. 18, 2011 - Received an acknowledgement letter from embassy that my papers were in (Also received an email from DIAC to do our medicals for our family migration (subclass 176)

Mar. 23 and 24, 2011 - Called SDP for any news on my visa

Mar. 25, 2011 - Received my Visa delivered by Air21 in my house at 10:00am

*I was told by College of Nursing that I have to provide them scanned copy of my visa 4 weeks before commencement of course so that will be March 27.

*In between I had my immunisations, fix bank statements, go to lawyer, pray pray pray :)

Hope this helps :)

Hey miks,

We pretty much have the same timeline so far, although I applied to AHPRA VIC. CON told me that they sent me a confirmation letter after having sent them a copy of my 456. Why did you have to go to a lawyer mik?

See you April 27 classmate! :D

After more than a year of waiting, this is finally happening. :D Now I'm a bit nervous because I don't know what to expect from the College of Nursing. I heard somewhere that they've failed people in the past.

Thanks cioman! :) You are the only person here who knew my predicament, and yes indeed prayers really helped! Thanks for all your help and the sharing of information :)

By the way folks, I think its easier to apply for visa now. Our 176 (Skilled Migration) filed last Sept. 2010 got news already. My spouse and kids and myself are being asked to do the medicals already and we will be assessed in 3 months time.

Anyone have an idea about the re-use of medicals? I read in DIAC website that from temporary to permanent stay we need to redo the medicals, but there are exemptions (i just don't know if a nurse on 456 is included in the exemption since the example given is 457 only)

actually mate, the new rules for Skilled Migration to be implemented on July 2011 is a bit stricter, in fact, could really adversely affect some applicants..

College? Uni? ...nothing much to do but wait and pray...

Hi cioman. Where can you find the new rules for skilled migration to take effect July 2011? Tried looking it up at DIAC and can't seem to find it.

Oh yea.. its been modified to really target only the skills needed in Oz...and the pass mark will be lower...

I meant those pending applications seem to be faster in getting assessed now, I expected ours to be like 2-3 years waiting but its just 6 months and we are now asked to do the medicals. Probably they wanted to clear all pending applications before the transition to the changes in the New Points Test.

Phew lucky my family applied last year ^_^ But mind you, their rules keep changing, 2010 they got change also their skilled migration criteria, this year will be modified again...
