Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hi confused_much!
I submitted my application last July 2010, just when the new rules were imposed. I submitted the proof of certificate in my high school and college education that the medium of instruction used is English. I have confirmed from AHPRA yesterday that I no longer need to sit an Ielts. Now, I'm just waiting for the approval from the national board. Hoping they could e-mail me soon.....it's been six months of waiting:cry:

If you received your education in the Phillipines unless it was an super duper international school, then I would be concerned re your application and the 'no need' for IELTS.
Here is a link for the board on english requirements, you only get off ielts if you have received your education in english speaking country ie: uk, canada, usa, Ireland and south africa go to this link and pick the link to the board pdf file for november at the bottom of the page.

I already asked ahpra about it and still awaiting for their response; and they also asked me where i had taken my secondary educ. and nursing program. i think that ceridwyn is right. but let's hope for the best though.
Hi Ceridwyn!
Thanx for the comment but in case i need to sit the Ielts, the AHPRA should have informed me before they forwarded my application to the National Board. I'm willing to sit the Ielts If I have to but my application was under july to november's rule. The rules after november came out and all applicants should get the Ielts except the one's who graduated from the countries mentioned. I called them three times this week, and the same thing they are saying to me, NO NEED for the Ielts......Let's just wait and see for their final decision. Hoping for the best!
I submitted my application last October 2010 and just last week, my case manager from AHPRA emailed me and told me my application has been assessed and the decision is just pending. She will contact me once the decision has been made. Sorry if I was not able to reply to all questions addressed to me before because I had an internet connection problem.
Let's keep praying that all our eigibility letters will be released soon. :) GOD BLESS!

I do no know if you are aware but the english requirement was even more strict between July and November, even applicants from the UK had to submit an IELTS at 7 all round. Before that all the former state nursing boards insisted on IELTS from all countries that english was not national language and all filipino applicants still had to do IELTS though until 2009, 6.5 all round was okay.
If AHPRA is going to accept nurses with an english secondary and nursing education from a country that english is not the main language....this covers many nurses in the world, it will set a precedent with nurses from the Phillipines but from and all other NESB countries as well. Because of poor english skills in the past all the state nursing boards increased the IELTS requirements up to 7 in the first place from 6.5 so the english bar was already there, even if you applied before July 2010.
I agree if IELTS is the problem then they should have let you know, what level education is your nursing school would be the next question, as I have heard that nursing education is the most radical change in the new criteria for assessing overseas nurses. Your school must be university standard. Though you think your assessment of your nursing education would not go through if all the requirements were not there.
Hope it works out for you.
hello everybody!anybody here who is a second courser?
I'm a 2nd courser.
Anybody here can tell me the time line when they received their approval letter from ahpra to undergo the BP after their payment for processing fee was reflected in their credit card statement?
I got my email confirmation letter that they received my application documents last Jan 13. But it was not until March 9 that the processing fee was posted in my credit card bill. I'm wondering if the assessment will soon be finished and I will, then, get a response from the assessing officer. I'm trying to catch the May intake for BP.
