Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

You just wait. The timeline of my application is this :Sent my application Dec. 6, 2010
Sent my PRC doc Dec. 7, 2010
Requested for IDP TRF Dec 7, 2010
Received email confirmation from ahpra that they have my docs Jan 13, 2011
My credit card statement reflected the posting of the application fee Mar 9, 2011
Until now, the waiting continues............
Thanks for the reply. You've given me such a relief. :)) I have nothing else to do but wait then. Hope you get your letter soon
Hey guys! I sent my application and was delivered to AHPRA last February 14 via courier. I have been waiting for an e-mail to confirm that theyve received my documents. But to my dismay, I still haven't received any yet. 2 weeks ago, I called and e-mailed them regarding my concern and all they told me was to give them a couple of weeks since there are a lot of applications. I'm getting crazy worried. Did anyone else undergo or are aware of a similar situation? Thanks. I'll probably call them again by next week.
I got an automated reply from AHPRA that they receive my documents already a week after I sent mine. Although it doesn't include there my PRC and IELTS documents yet.
Maybe you just have to wait for a little more yet. Let's just hope and pray the assessment will go faster because waiting is such a hassle:)
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie in this forum. To all those who were interviewed already for employment in a hospital, was it hard? What are the usual questions being asked, if you don't mind? Presently, I am doing my job search online. And I can say that it's really really hard.
Thank you so much in advance!
Hi,im from the Philippines..I want to apply as a registered Nurse in Australia. However, im quite confused. I have a pending application in New Zealand. I was approved by the Nursing Council yet I still do not have a school for the Competency Assessment Program (CAP) and my Decision Letter (August 2011) is about to expire as well as my IELTS (November 2011).
What are the requirements for registration?
How about the Payment?
Is the BP difficult(what exactly are the content/lecture of Bridging Program)?
Am i qualified?
since I only have 6 months training from a private tertairy hospital and the other 6 months is a volunteer nurse in a tertiary public hospital.
I'm also in the same situation as you are. Have NZNC approval letter for CAP since last year. My IELTS is set to expire this Sept. I decided to apply with ahpra for registration. Have a BP slot already in one of the schools. I'm now waiting for my letter of approval from ahpra to undergo the BP. Please check the ahpra website for instructions. They are very straightforward and a lot easier to comply compared to NZNC.
Check also the previous threads starting page 1. All your questions about the process can be answered from the previous posts.
Decided to apply with ahpra last Dec to have at least another option. Didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket.
My niece is already in australia working. She was able to get in during the previous rules. She didn't have any work experience at all. Now, you are only required 3 months work experience either paid or volunteer work for as long as nursing related. It's just like nznc.
The major difference between aus and nz is the cost of course. You are going to spend at least 3 times as much.

im just curious, what is the reason why you still do not have a CAP school? nobody accepts you? full enrolment? i mean, that's the only step you have to undertake unlike in Oz, you will start from the beginning..

There are various clinical situations like hyper/hypo-glycemia, difficulty of breathing, chest pain etc.. you should know what nursing interventions you must implement in each of the clinical situation..
Continuous Quality Improvement..... what is this? you should know this.. i assume this was discuss in your BP..
infection control: measures, prevention, practices/procedures....

TOPICS:o ANMC, Part-Time Work during BP,
o 12-year Education, "Second Courser" Nurses,
o Comments on effects of new AHPRA rules
o Job Hunting Situation
hello stoma,
- ryan09, chabeli, javRN had "achieve" already, not me.. ceridwyn has long long been successful..
- schools that dont require experience??? ask DREDNAG, HAOYIN, RYAN09,.. me, dont know which is which..
- Work during BP? it depends, read my post on PAGE 01, "VISA"... if you are allowed to work, then yes, dishwasher, dancer, lover,.. but chances are you can find work as "caregiver" which they call as AIN, PCA, which will earn you about $10-$12 per hour..
- ANMC..... please focus on AHPRA, do not waste your time on ANMC... ANMC is only very useful if you are searching/checking for the list of accredited BP providers and if you are applying directly as a Skilled Migrant.. ANMC will also be involved if later, after your 457 visa, then you would convert to permanent residency.. But as far purely nursing registration is concerned, dont bother yourself about ANMC,, focus on AHPRA...
- 12 year Education, other new AHPRA rules.... generally speaking, here's the situation as of the time im writing this === there are new rules like that 12 year education which most of us (or all of us) do not know on its effects on a Filipino nurse's application, precisely becoz these are new rules.. we do not have 1st hand experience yet on how AHPRA deals with a new Filipino application.. All we can do for now is wait for the result of the applications of some of the forumers here, example, i think shyner07 had applied under the new AHPRA.. We would not know the answer until she receives the result of her application..
SECOND COURSER NURSE... same thing with applicant who is a second courser, prior AHPRA, all second courser were approved.. but with AHPRA, we will just have to wait and see for any actual result of approval or disapproval..
The thing is we do not have any precedent examples yet of how AHPRA approves applications and interpret its rules because everything is new and have just recently been implemented.
- Scared of BP, pass BP?? .... read my post on PAGE O1, "BP"..
- JOB HUNTING... Haoyin posted a comment on this, somewhere in PAGE 643 - 647 in the Part 1 of this thread (this thread is Part 2)
- your 4 mos. volunteer experience, finding a nursing home job?.. i cannot give a straightforward answer.. please read Haoyin's comment as mentioned above and you will have a feel of the current job situation.. There is just one thing that I can definitely tell you, the job hunting situation today is different than 1-2 years ago.. as a good example, the New Zealand is temporarily not accepting overseas nurses, imagine that, which means there are already a lot of nurses within NZ at this point of time..
- so you said you love geriatrics... well, that explains the interracial relationship website...
lots of geriatrics in those site i guess... hey, atik lang, im just kidding okey.. peace.. by the way, whats the website? i wanna be a member..
hehehehe....
Seriously, good luck to you.. and dont forget to pray and help others in your own simple way..
Hi CIOMAN
what are the necessary payments for registration?. (e.g. registration fee, assessment)
what are the complete requirements?
what are the schools in Melbourne who are accepting Overseas RN's with only 1 year training/volunteer experience?
How long will the processing time take?
Hope to hear from you.. God Bless!
im just curious, what is the reason why you still do not have a CAP school? nobody accepts you? full enrolment? i mean, that's the only step you have to undertake unlike in Oz, you will start from the beginning..
Most of the schools who are providing CAP in New Zealand are full until 2012. My Approval Letter from the NZ Nursing Council is about to expire as well as my IELTS..most of the necessary documents for the australia registration are complete..the only problem is I do not know the exact amount that I have to pay for registration (registration fee, assessment feee, etc.).. Another thing is..I dont know the complete requirements for registration. An oh..regarding the CV..if its okay with you..do you have a sample of a standard CV?
Hello there people! I am currently residing in Perth and have been here for 5 months now and still confused with regards to the english language qualification. I have already taken my ielts exam here but unfortunately I have 6.5 score in the speaking and writing category. It is said on their FAQ and Fact sheets that each component must have a minimum of a 7 band score. Now, I am worried because I'm unemployed at the moment and my funds are already quite exhausted (living with my sister who have a daughter in the Philippines; so literally she can't cover for the cost of my english exam). I have sent an inquiry to the AHPRA about my situation.
My situation:
I have a certification for English medium of instruction for both secondary education and the nursing program I attended. The certificate declares that the medium of instruction, as well as the teaching materials in our University are in English Language. And it also says that I have shown proficiency with the English Language and have satisfactorily passed all English subjects and other academic requirements of the course (which is BSN). It goes the same for my secondary education certificate of English medium of instruction; except for the Filipino Subject which is also taught in Filipino Language.
__________________________________________________________________
Now I am wondering if they would accept that as a proof of English Language proficiency without requiring the IELTS. It is really hard to take the IELTS exam here because of the high cost and I am also worried about the issue on recency of practice. By 24th of April, I have graduated more than 12 months ago and have no experience in Nursing Field. I have been busy with trainings since I held the information of passing the PNLE when I was in the Philippines and volunteering has been on freeze mode so I had no chance of doing that. I haven't passed my application but I was planning to after I finished this course (cert III in aged care, home & community care).
