New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

TO joiemike

Hi..really?..how many months did you wait before the aprha respond to you?..how much all in all did you pay?..been reading from previous post..stil confuse cause they have different views..i also read the website of ahpra with regards to the payment..there were a lot of payments printed in it and im really really confuse...

I paid Aus $450 for my application. Please check the timeline I posted just previous to this post

Hello there people! I am currently residing in Perth and have been here for 5 months now and still confused with regards to the english language qualification. I have already taken my ielts exam here but unfortunately I have 6.5 score in the speaking and writing category. It is said on their FAQ and Fact sheets that each component must have a minimum of a 7 band score. Now, I am worried because I'm unemployed at the moment and my funds are already quite exhausted (living with my sister who have a daughter in the Philippines; so literally she can't cover for the cost of my english exam). I have sent an inquiry to the AHPRA about my situation.

My situation:

I have a certification for English medium of instruction for both secondary education and the nursing program I attended. The certificate declares that the medium of instruction, as well as the teaching materials in our University are in English Language. And it also says that I have shown proficiency with the English Language and have satisfactorily passed all English subjects and other academic requirements of the course (which is BSN). It goes the same for my secondary education certificate of English medium of instruction; except for the Filipino Subject which is also taught in Filipino Language.

Now I am wondering if they would accept that as a proof of English Language proficiency without requiring the IELTS. It is really hard to take the IELTS exam here because of the high cost and I am also worried about the issue on recency of practice. By 24th of April, I have graduated more than 12 months ago and have no experience in Nursing Field. I have been busy with trainings since I held the information of passing the PNLE when I was in the Philippines and volunteering has been on freeze mode so I had no chance of doing that. I haven't passed my application but I was planning to after I finished this course (cert III in aged care, home & community care).

If you got 6.5 in writing and speaking the most important communication tools used in nursing, your your english skills are not appropriate for a nurse in Australia at this time and you have not done 6 years of secondary schooling as does every english speaking country. I doubt whether you will get out of the IELTS.

Also if you think the IELTS exam is expensive.....have you seen the cost of the bridging programs! they are horrendous in price.

I know how much are the bridging programs, but that does not worry me at all because of government funding when you are already a resident. anyway thank you very much for your answer :)

Hi everyone!

I just want to know if anybody of you also waiting for the approval of National Board??....I have submitted my application to AHPRA last Sept. 28, 2010 and received a message from them the other day that my application was already been forwarded to National Board for final assessment and approval. No idea how long will it take:rolleyes:

Which state did you submit your application? How come it took them so long to give you a confirmation letter?

hi joiemike!

I am for International Nurse Assessment and I am here in qld. They have informed me that my application has already been assessed but still waiting for the approval of the National Board. It's been ages and just trying to be patient for their reply:rolleyes:

Hi,

I wonder if you have considered taking your IELTS test here in the Phils. Since, I presume you are a PR already, then it may be cheaper for you to review and take the test in the Phils.

Hi CIOMAN

what are the necessary payments for registration?. (e.g. registration fee, assessment)

what are the complete requirements?

what are the schools in Melbourne who are accepting Overseas RN's with only 1 year training/volunteer experience?

How long will the processing time take?

Hope to hear from you.. God Bless!

1) joiemike answered: $450..

2) i do not memorize the complete requirements.. but i will be able to answer your question if i will read AHPRA website and also if i will read thread member glioblastoma posts.. try to trace glioblastoma posts in the early pages of this thread as he mentioned about the complete requirements.. but just to give you an idea:

ielts, AGOS form, TOR, CV, Certificates of Training/Volunteer, cert. of good standing,.. again trace glioblastoma posts in the early pages, that is what i will do if i want to know the answer of your question..

nonetheless, i do hope other members could answer your question completeley..

3) have you read page 01, i only know 3 BP schools in Victoria.. i do not know their specific requirements, but if i want to know now, i will google and read their website.. again, hopefully, other members can answer this question..

4) nobody knows.. 3-6 mos. even 9 mos.. processing time..

Just wondering if you applied with ahpra under the new national rules or international assessment for migration under the nursing and midwifery council?

Just wondering.

Most of the schools who are providing CAP in New Zealand are full until 2012. My Approval Letter from the NZ Nursing Council is about to expire as well as my IELTS..most of the necessary documents for the australia registration are complete..the only problem is I do not know the exact amount that I have to pay for registration (registration fee, assessment feee, etc.).. Another thing is..I dont know the complete requirements for registration. An oh..regarding the CV..if its okay with you..do you have a sample of a standard CV?

i do not have sample standard of the CV, but if i want to get one, i will trace glioblastoma's posts in this thread in the early pages because he posted or shared CV format which many members here have used..

nonetheless, i hope other members here now could share the format CV to you..

1) recency of practice.. this is defined in AHPRA website... no problem yet in your case..

2) you need at least 3 months nursing practice.. nursing practice is defined in AHPRA website (and was discussed 4-6 pages ago in this thread)..

3) if you are not filipino, assuming you are british born in UK, you are UK/British RN, and wanna become RN in Oz, then take the IELTS and must have score of 7 each band..
