Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Please remember that the matters of DIAC/Australia Visa are different with Australia nursing registration.. they are connected but not the same.. hence, read DIAC website and AHPRA website.. and matters of visa in itself varies, e.g. 456, 457, PR, thus again read DIAC website.. as miks103 said, read read read read read read.... it's your money and career which are on the line (not mine or anybody else's).. remember there are a lot of changes going on, example that new point system of DIAC, if you just rely on other forumers without helping yourself by reading, well good luck...
medibank is expensive, try MBF or HBA or other insurance.. i first got medibank insurance, then one month after arriving australia, i changed it to another company, because the price is really obviously expensive..
Thanks cioman for the suggestions.
For Australia-based insurances, I did some personal quoting for myself (applicable to 3 months 456 visa):
1. HBA - http://www.hba.com.au/public_insurance_sales/vic/App/covers_for_overseas.action
Cheapest - Basic Standard Visitors Cover - $20.20 per week
2. MBF - http://www.mbf.com.au/
Cheapest Health Insurance - Active Sports Saver (Basic Hospital Cover) - $20.65 fortnightly
3. OSHC - https://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/ - they refer you to certain links for non-student visa holders
a. http://www.overseasvisitors.com.au/default.asp?agent=eti - For Overseas Health Visitors Health Insurance
Cheapest Budget Overseas Visitors Cover - $241.70 for 3 months (you have to key-in your preferred cover so they can give you a quote)
b. https://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/educover/educover.aspx - health cover for international students and visitors
Cheapest Health Cover - $216 for 3 months (again you have to key-in your preferred cover to get a quote)
Again, this is just applicable to me :) Others can just refer to the sites above for their own reference.
Hello everyone! I e-mailed the Australian immigration office in Manila regarding the medical/travel insurance and their reply to me is the insurance is for but not limited to applicants 75 years old and above. The case officer shall advise visa applicants if their is a need for the insurance. :)
I wonder when will my letter of offer from The College of Nursing arrive? I hope the Philippine Post Office works faster than ever. It's less than 2 months until my target course intake and I still haven't started processing my visa, plane ticket and accommodation. I'm starting to get anxious!

If you do not have travel insurance, will the visa officer look long and hard at how much 'show money' you have?
Just a thought...because a doctors visit will set you back $65AU to a general practitioner and medications can be anything from $50 to hundreds when not subsidised by the Australian Government and therefore taxpayers.

hey ceridwen,
we're pretty much on the same stage i think. I am waiting for my support letter from the CON so that I can apply fot my 456 already. they said they sent it to me last monday so I was expecting it today, but it still hasn't arrived. How long does it usually take to send letters via ordinary mail from SYD to MLA?
Hope to see you soon guys!
